Without going into details, we missed our flight and ended up driving from UK to Black Forest and arrived at midnight... So, if you are thinking of staying in this area and are concerned about driving (at least from Basel airport) don't be! I didn't have any issues (other than being tired...) The property is in a beautiful location with walks available from the front door. The local wildlife is lovely to behold - deer freely roaming, birds-of-prey soaring overhead. The house itself is wonderful and full of character. There is a spacious veranda/decking area (with hammock!) to relax and enjoy the view. Even when the thunderstorms inevitably roll in, there are awnings that cover the veranda so you can stay comfortable and dry whilst watching the storms. This was our first visit to Germany and The Black Forest and we thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend the area and this property especially.

The property was located in a peaceful area and had lovely views. We loved seeing the wild deer who feed near the house. The cottage had almost everything that was needed. We were very grateful for the iron that was provided on request. However the availability of a washing machine would have been a huge benefit as we were travelling for several weeks from Australia. Katrina was very easy to communicate with and was helpful with all of our queries. She also provided really good information on places to enjoy in the area.

This is my third time at Krandel. It is pure joy to be here. Whether inside or outside, this place is magic. From coffee in the morning to wine in the evening, we almost never left the porch. The views over the fields, valleys and mountains are exceptional. It was especially charming to see two beautiful horses on the distant hill each morning. The peace and quite is so healing. The house itself is simply beautiful, like something out of a fairy tale. Comfortable, well appointed and charming. We created many memorable meals in the kitchen. The location, about 1/2 a mile from the center of the little village, creates a feeling of being away from the madding crowd yet near civilization. We walked the country roads every day. Yet you are close to excellent shopping and destinations for supplies, sightseeing and fun. Our favorite journey was our frequent meals at the Hirschen, an amazing country inn about 5 minutes away in Sallneck. We will return....again and again.

First, the house is located in one of the most beautiful settings one can imagine. The only comparable references I can think of is the lid of a jigsaw puzzle box or perhaps a creation by Walt Disney! It is stunning and breathtaking so if you are into walking or hiking or just being alone with your thoughts, this is the place for you. If you are into night life/activites, you will have definitely picked the wrong place!!! This home is located several miles down a forest road and about 1/2 mile to the nearest house which is in a little village of about 8-10 house (no stores/pubs,etc). It is on the edge of the Black Forest so plenty of places to walk or hike. The house itself was very nice with plenty of amenities, beds were good, kitchen had plenty of utensils, pots, wine glasses, etc. The closest grocery store is in Schopfheim which is about a 15-20 minute drive but as an American, the store was wonderful (Heibers) with huge selections, fresh breads of all kinds with accompanying small restaurant and amazing prices on everything (cheap!) including a large wine selection. We were there during the month of October and the house was nice and warm. The only drawback (for us anyway) was that the casual seating was around a large/long beautiful wood table but no couch, etc. (one upholstered chair). The other drawback was no microwave for say heating up leftovers or for morning oatmeal but we made do with the electric tea pot in the morning but a microwave would have been a little more convenient. For such a secluded spot, we did get good internet reception even though slow but when you are in this type of spot, you should not be in a big hurry about anything!! The town of Wieslet is about 10 minutes away and has a 'mill' which bakes bread and has other types of items such as cheeses, brats, nuts, etc. but not a grocery shopping place. We ate at two different small gasthaus/restaurants in Wieslet that were very good and we would reccommend both. Schopfheim has a number of places to eat and only another 5-10 minutes further. If you are into seclusion and being in, really, one of the most picturesque places in the world (we were in Norway the previous year and it is certainly dramatic but this area does not take a backseat!), this is the place for you. Our stay was two weeks and its location for visiting Switzerland and France was great, and the castle at Lorrach (about 30 minutes) was super!! Frieburg also great!
