It was a pleasure to meet Imola at the property who appeared smartly dressed and on time. Sadly we were 20 mins behind schedule due to long queues at Ferry. We paid her by credit card at the property. This is not the most satisfactory way we like to pay as we are unsure who has access to our credit card details. It was disappointing that the lawn in the rear garden had not been cut for at least two weeks according to to Imola as the grass was very long. The images on Booking.com show a neat garden which attracted us. Sadly the borders were just dirt with many weeds and dead plants. There was a very tall Cordiline tree which had died and was constantly dropping sharp fronds. The Patio was very dirty as was the structure of the white walls of the house with dead leaves, cobwebs, pine needles and dust on the external window cills causing me to purchase a broom to thoroughly clean the outside of the property. There were heavy stones all over the driveway making it uncomfortable to walk across so we had to clear these also. The bathroom floor on the ground floor was very dirty which was noticed after the first use of the shower as the shower mat became wet filthy brown marks from the wet floor appeared when you stepped upon it. The sitting room was comfortable however there was a very strong odour which required a great deal of air freshener to neutralise. The internal window cills had a great deal of dust/ pollen on them. The Kitchen was reasonably well equipped. There was no instruction booklet so we did not know if we had to move the wheelie bins to the curtilage of the property for waste collection. The shower was powerful and the combi boiler provided plenty of hot water. There was a good strong front door with a security lock.
We were very concerned that the uppermost first floor bedroom, the largest and most comfortable (might not) meet building regs. Our understanding and that of a building surveyor we have subsequently spoken to, is that there should be a fireproof wall with a 1/2 hour fire door enclosing the first floor bedroom and separating it from the staircase. All the ground floor doors should also be fire doors. In the current setting the bedroom is completely open plan to the staircase with no door at the bottom either. There was a 13 amp twin socket outlet with exposed cables hanging off the back box without fixing screws in this same bedroom by the side of soft furnishings. Thankfully our pet dog is not inquisitive or it could have garnered a nasty shock.
If there had been a lawn mower available we would have cut the grass.
