The Aloha Lanta is a wonderful hotel and an excellent value. The rooms themselves are large and spotlessly clean, the beds are comfortable, the wifi is solid, and the airconditioning works well. The spacious balcony includes a surprisingly comfortable pair of plastic chairs, a small table, and some hooks for drying wet bathing suits. The rooms are a bit dated and basic, but I have stayed at several different hotels in the Sala Dan area of Koh Lanata and I can tell you all of the hotel rooms in the neighborhood are a bit dated and basic regardless of the cost per night. I can also say the rooms at the Aloha Lanta are as good as any of them and better than most. The only knock I have against the room is there is only one electric outlet, but this problem is easily solved with a power strip. I went to the grocery store and bought one for less than 200 baht, but I’m guessing if I’d asked at the front desk they might have given me one to use during my stay. The location of the Aloha Lanta is excellent. It is close to the pier, many dive shops, lots of great restaurants, and a night market. Nearby there is a grocery store, a 7-11, a couple pharmacies, a clinic, and many other conveniences. The location is perfect for me as I come to Koh Lanta a couple of times a year for scuba diving and it great to roll out of bed and be a five minute walk to the dive shop (I use Hidden Depths Diving, they're awesome). However, what really makes the Aloha Lanta such a great hotel is the staff who are excellent and provide a level of service you rarely find anymore. Everyone is friendly, personable, service minded, and attentive without being intrusive. When I checked in the hotel manager noitced luggage and asked if I was scuba diving (dive gear bags are fairly distinctive). I told him I was, and after that whenever the manager saw me in the afternoons he would ask how the diving was and which dive sites I had visited that day. But the manager wasn't just talk, on the my first morning the manger saw me walking toward the dive shop and he came running out of the lobby with a beach towel in his arms and asked if I needed a towel for the day. I didn’t (I packed my own, small, dive towel), but I appreciated the offer. Then, a few days later, the manger rode past me on his motorcycle a few blocks from the hotel as I was walking to the grocery store after dinner and he was on his way home after a long day of work. When he saw me he stopped, said “hello”, and then asked if I needed a ride someplace! I didn’t, but it really is remarkable to see a hotel manager care so much about his guests. All the employees seem care as much about the guests as the manager. Again on my first morning I walked past the housekeeper as I was leaving the hotel and she smiled and said good morning and then asked me what room I was in. I told her, and she asked if I’d like my room cleaned or need anything. I then saw her every morning after that (I think she learned my schedule), and she always greeted me with the same warm smile and a cheerful “good morning” before asking if I’d like my room cleaned or if I needed anything. To summarize, the Aloha Lanta may not be the fanciest hotel in Koh Lanta, but it is a very special place. It is warm and inviting and the staff make you feel like a welcome and valued guest and they do everything they can to make sure you have a great stay. After trying many different hotels in Sala Dan I’ve found the best, and I’m already looking forward to my next visit to the Aloha Lanta. Obviously, I wholeheartedly recommend the Aloha Lanta to anyone.

A great place to stay, especially for me as a diver. The hotel is conveniently located near the ferry dock, making it very easy to access boats and diving trips. Although the room is simple, it is spacious and very clean. Since I am here mainly for diving, not having a TV actually added to the experience, allowing me to truly relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The atmosphere is calm and perfect for resting both body and mind. There are shops, cafés, and eateries nearby, and the Walking Market Street is only about a five-minute walk away. It’s a family-run business, and the owner is very friendly, helpful, and speaks good English, which made my stay even more pleasant.

Aloha Lanta was one of those serendipitous strikes of luck; we weren't even supposed to go to Lanta! Petanque and his family run this business with incredible care and attention to detail. They achieve that family vibe, with a service hardly found at the biggest and brightest resorts.
