The owner was truly very friendly and accessible. He was kind and left some screenshots of nearby places to eat. He responded fast when I had a question. The property was nicely located and spacious enough for what I paid. It had some updates which were nice.

It smelled like raw sewage in the bathroom. I hit my head multiple times on the low bathroom clearance. The rest of the house also had an unpleasant smell, a little like mold or body odor. It got worse on day two. The bed could really use new linens and sheets, you could see oil spots and they were bare. It’s a half baked property with some things updated and others looking very old and musty. The WiFi connection, even inches from the router, was terrible. There were only a handful of threadbare and scratchy random towels to be used in the bathroom. There were no curtains for the windows, so it had poor privacy from the regular people who walked past the window. The doors were less than intuitive to unlock and the lockbox wasn’t very easy to find a few dozen feet away even with instructions late at night, which felt unsafe. I was worried I’d have to force the doors when I first tried to get in, “turn the handle up” wasn’t clear enough. Overall it doesn’t feel very homey, kind of empty. The washing machine cycle takes a VERY long time and is very small. I would still say it was better than any European hotel I stayed in and more authentic of an experience, but it’s certainly a far cry from comfort or luxury. The upstairs neighbors are very very loud and the nearby street and bell tower mean you won’t sleep late. The check out time on booking.com is 10am which is a little early for my tastes, but the owner sent a message saying 11am which was somewhat better. Still, for a place where you strip your own bed linens and take out your own trash none too close by, I would say the pricing was too high with all these small complaints.
