Delago’s lobby and rooms masterfully showcase the latest in luxury Italian design - the furniture and palettes are refined, rich, and welcoming.
But the gorgeous rooms lack necessary basics such as a safe, an iron and an ironing board and they had none of those little touches that guests need to feel pampered in a luxury hotel. The bath contained thin towels and only one tiny vial of a bargain 2-in-1 shower soap. We had to call for more and call again the next day because the meager supply was not refreshed. Thick towels and a collection of luxury soap, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion can transport travel weary guests to a tranquil spa experience. These had the opposite effect. There were no charging ports or extra outlets to charge devices, forcing us to unplug the stylish bedside lamps to charge our phones, leaving us in the dark. The bath had no towel bars, hooks or pegs, which left two options for wet towels: the bed or the floor… awkward if one needs to reuse a towel (especially after the bidet). No shower shelf meant we had to repeatedly stoop over and clumsily fuss with the little ampoules of soap scattered on the shower floor. So undignified. The absence of a toilet paper holder left us fumbling for the roll stashed under the sink - at times a stretch too far. Further underscoring the lack of care and attention to detail were the cheap wire hangers, the empty store packaging for the bedding on the closet floor, the dirty fridge, the bare electrical wires reaching out from the wall for a light fixture that hasn’t arrived… Housekeeping took the used towels left on the bathroom floor and placed them, refolded, on a table without providing fresh towels. Gross. They also failed to refresh the drinks in the fridge. When we called for fresh towels and drinks, it took management an hour to respond to our voice message and another 30 minutes to return to the hotel and fetch them. After a long hot day in the scorching July heat, waiting an extra hour for a shower towel and drinks feels like a very, very long time. Further frustrating the long wait was the hot room.
