About this villa rental

Villa IRINI is a private traditional property with a lovely swimming pool. It has been renovated according to the Cretan traditional architecture. It can accommodate up to eleven persons in four separate apartments which are placed in different levels.

The visitors will surely be impressed by the space which is decorated with antiques and the exterior environment which is immersed in the Cretan landscape. The charming swimming pool offers moments of relaxation and calmness under the sun, while the guests can enjoy peaceful shady spots in the yard with local mulberry trees. The upper level balconies offer a spectacular view of the gorge and mountains where goats and sheep live.

Apokoronas is a historic and beautiful area of Crete with a landscape of wild mountains and fertile valleys. It was a place where emperors and lords of Byzantine Empire could reside and enjoy wealth and beauty. Vafes is one of the villages of Apokoronas (32km far from Chania, 28km far from Rethymno and 110km far from Heraklion). Its the only village of the prefecture of Chania which has been declared a historic preservable place because of history and traditional architecture.

The beautiful stone walls outside, the traditional oven, the barbeque and the swimming pool offer the chance of a unique and peaceful stay in beautiful natural surroundings away from the bustle of tourism. Scents and colours of the thyme, oregan, jasmine and other Cretan plants and flowers give the visitors unique moments. The area has traditional cafes and taverns with delicious Cretan plates and industries with local products (wine, cheese etc.). Relax in a unique place and take a journey into the past time. Information about the area, books with Cretan nutrition and maps of the island are also provided.

We had a great time at the Irinni villa. We loved that each of us had his own suit and the congregation areas are wonderful, there are many places to sit, and enjoy everyone. The pool is a great feature. We loved the coffee place near buy and the restaurant in the village. The best thing is that the place is far from the noise of the city. With that, it’s a short 18 min drive to the beach and a 35min drive to Chanya. George was accommodating. This place is very much recommended if you want some peace and quite and you love the outdoors.

We've rented the whole villa for my family and that of my sister, adults and old teenagers, the fact that the rooms are almost small houses onto themselves is excellent for privacy and independence, if you're amongst adults (as we were), it's just perfect : everyone independent, but together at the same time, sharing the exquisite pool and the various terraces and courtyards, on different levels (you access them by stone stairs). Each of the four rooms has a refrigerator, a little kitchenette (or a bona fide kitchen) and bathroom/restroom, so it's very convenient. The whole thing has a great authentic feel to it, nothing too fancy, but that's part of the great charm of it. You get to the place through a little alley and then it's your own little (not so little) universe. The communication with the owner was fast and diligent, very amicable and gracious, but always through the Abritel platform. All in all, we had a great experience.

This villa was nice because we had all 4 rooms to ourselves with our group. The pool was nice and clean. George was very helpful with providing us information on how to get around and making sure we got a rental car instead of relying on public transportation (which you can't do if you stay here). The large bedroom's air conditioner did not work. Air came out, but it wasn't cold, like it was always on "fan" mode despite us using the remote to change the setting. We ended up buying a fan at the store and using that so at least on the ground level we had circulating air. But once I told George about the problem, he did send someone out to check out the machine, plus he was also nice enough to reimburse us for the fan which we left there for other future guests to use. The room near the pool was interesting in terms of the set up. It seemed to be a basement of some sort converted into a bedroom villa with a loft. We got used to it after a while, but it has an old wood burning stove and air ducts going through the room and the walls were concrete/rock like. So it wasn't "cozy" per se, but it was fine. We liked the cafe that was up the street from the villa. And the shop that has an old olive press. The wifi at these villas were horrible. We had to rely and walk to the wifi from the cafe up the block instead. It would always say that it's connected, but "no internet". The only way we were able to get by was we had a phone with international service so we always had some connection to the internet if we needed it. Driving to the villas can be a little confusing. Even more so if getting there at night. We actually missed the turn off because the signs off the highway are not very well lit or good. The only way that we were able to get there safely and right away from the ferry port was because we followed google maps off the phone that had international service. I'm confident we would not have made it there with just paper directions. The photo of the last left turn into the walkway and entrance of the villa was helpful. As I recognized that from the photos George sent to us before we arrived. We arrived late and George could not meet us so he nice enough to leave keys for us in the doors for our arrival. You have to have a rental car if you are staying here. We liked that it was in between Chania and Remythmnon so the location for that purpose was great. Buy if you plan to walk everywhere and travel like this. Very hard to do from this location.
