Just home from a beautiful stay at Bog Bay. The house is lovely, large and has everything you could imagine. Frank was very helpful. Kitchen is well equipped and we really enjoyed the outside seating area. The beds were extremely comfortable and we loved that each bedroom had an ensuite bathroom. We loved the quiet of the countryside but also being close enough to walk to Oughterard which we did several times a day. This truly is a perfect location, close to the city as well as near enough for day trips to the countryside.

We rented this summer home in Bog Bay, just outside Oughterard. Although difficult to find on your first attempt, the location is simply perfect, the premises are only 1/4 mile from Lough Corrib and you have full access to the lake (lake access alone is valuable). Our hosts were Frank and Mary O'Connor, who were warm and hospitable. The premises were pristine, fully stocked with the necessaries and slept five comfortably with room to spare. The interior looks recently redone. The location is a paradox - less than 1/2 mile from downtown Oughterard but very secluded. The only visitors were our hosts and delivery people and we never even saw other vehicles. It is very quiet and very private - serene in a word. The only "cons" we encountered were apparently unavoidable. We had two minor problems. (1) We are "advanced" and were required to schlep the recyclables and garbage 1/8 of a mile over rutted footpaths for pickup. OTH the Irish are VERY serious about being green. The recycling sort requires the skills of a CPA. (2) A certain species of insect - "Moroccan centipedes"(?) - abounds in the area. The bugs are small, harmless but something of a nuisance and somehow get inside the premises no matter how much care one takes. My advice is do not go barefoot in the house! But those were minor drawbacks. All in all, we thought the premises nearly perfect.
