Welcome to Upper Deck, a first-floor apartment sleeping four guests in the village of St Erth, in West Cornwall only a mile from the A30 close to Hayle and Penzance. This is an ideal location to explore the area, being close to the train station and on a bus route, it can be easier to catch public transport in the busy periods than try and park in St Ives or Mousehole. The shops and 17th-century pub are nearby; outside the pub you will see information of a circular walk around the nature reserve of St Erth Pitts, with semi-mature woods. There is so much to do for all ages, especially as the beaches in the area are stunning with long stretches of golden sand, protected by sand dunes. Gwithian at Hayle is the most popular for families, and water sport enthusiasts. It has plenty of parking amenities, a café, and at low tide large pools are great for little ones to paddle, and will take you about 17 minutes to drive, whilst Hayle beach is a little closer.

If it’s not a beach day, why not go to Paradise Park where there is a large indoor play area as well as plenty of birds and small mammals to see? For older ones, Coast 2 Coast Karting at Hayle, or a trip to Country Skittles will keep them happy. The Tate Gallery and Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Gardens are always a firm favourite with visitors to St Ives, whilst the quaint fishing village in the harbour is ideal for boat and fishing trips. For gardening enthusiasts, you are spoilt for choice with National Trust Garden at Tregwainton, Tremenheere Sculpture Garden, Morab gardens all within a short distance at Penzance. You can choose from a wide choice of coastal walks depending on how far you wish to go. The coastline is stunning and is within Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where you may see dolphins, seals and perhaps a humpback whale, as well as a wide range of wildlife. Your holiday here offers plenty of activities if you wish, or just chill and relax taking in the outstanding areas and history. There is a local pub across the road and the nearest beach is just 5 minutes away.

Please note: There are open, steep, spiral or narrow stairs at the property.

If you stay in the summer you will love this apartment. It is spacious, light, beautifully furnished and has lovely views across the village and the surrounding countryside. There is a shop below with basic essentials and a very friendly pub opposite. If you stay in the winter months you will not notice all the good things because you will be freezing cold. I spent the first hour after we arrived poring over the manuals to try to get the heaters to warm up. The ones in the bedrooms were okay but the one in the hallway seemed to be faulty. It wouldn’t even work on the manual setting. The storage heater in the large sitting room with windows on three sides was woefully inadequate for the size of room. It sent out a rather pathetic amount of warmth for a few hours and then came up with an error code so I kept on having to reset it. We sat every evening under the fleece throws from the sofa. That heater may provide background heat if it worked properly but there needs to be another heater in the sitting room for winter evenings. Another gripe was that the TV was switched off at the wall but the TV was so enormous and heavy that it was impossible to move to get to the plug to switch it on. I had to get into a contorted position and poke at the switch with a wooden spoon. Needless to say, we found it hard to relax in this property but if you stay in the summer and you don’t want to watch TV, you’ll love it.
