Tenuta Sant'Ilario

An exceptional property! Beautiful grounds with a lovely 12th century building to sleep in. I proposed to my girlfriend during our short stay, and the staff were extremely helpful and welcoming before and after. The hardest part was choosing where (too many spots to choose from!) Plenty of activities to do - wine tasting, cooking courses, truffle hunting, or simply just exploring the rolling Tuscan hills. There are plenty of small villages to head to locally, with various restaurants and coffee shops to enjoy. Casa Massi - we both said was the best meal we have eaten in years. Truffle Hunting - with Leonardo was great fun and on the property grounds. Fattoria La Torre Wine Tasting - the cooking class was fantastic! Parco di Canonica - great for a scenic walk

The driveway down to the property takes 4-5 minutes (it’s not a problem, really - just worth considering if planning to walk!), and should be taken slowly if your vehicle has low clearance!

This is such a magical place in the Tuscan country side - it has stunning views, a beautiful pool area for hot days and a stunning breakfast. Our bedroom was by die pool area, very charming with authentic Tuscan charm, and comfortable bed, fridge and coffee station, modern shower and close to the breakfast room. There was a transfer shuttle available to take us to town for dinner and back again If you stay here on a night that the restaurant is open it is stunning

If you are hiking this is an extra 1.5km outside town of which half is downhill and the other half uphill on a dirt road. The restaurant was closed on the night of our stay so we had to go back into town for dinner. The communication from reception was unclear on a number of things including the fact that the transfer to town was not mentioned and they charged us €20 the next morning for the transfer to town. Other guests also hiking were not aware of the shuttle and it was not able to accommodate everyone

Lovely peaceful location. The building was characterful and situated beautifully in its setting. The restaurant staff were excellent and made us feel very welcome. It also made a nice contrast to some of the more town based hotels along the Via Francigena

Hard to complain about anything really. I suppose because it is a bit out of town, on foot it is a little bit of a climb. In April the swimming pool was also a little chilly for a comfortable swim.

The restaurant is in a spectacular position and the staff very nice and helpful. The food was average and pretentious.
