About this apartment rental

With its turquoise water, white sands and lush tropical vegetation, Carbis Bay is a dreamy destination for family holidays on Cornwall’s beautiful west coast. And if you’re looking for somewhere exceptional to stay while visiting the area, you’ll love this spacious two bedroom apartment with its terrific balcony and phenomenal sea views that stretch right across Carbis Bay and on to Gwithian Towans and beyond.

One of a small collection of individually owned homes, Horizon Bay occupies a ground floor position in the attractive Victorian Villa of Tremorna House - originally the residence of the St Ives School of Artists. With direct access to the South West Coast Path, St Ives’s culture-infused cobbled streets, lovely harbour and vibrant restaurant scene lie just 15 minutes’ walk away, while Carbis Bay beach is mere metres from the front door, so if you like to hit the water for an early morning swim, you can be breakfast table to sand within minutes.

Light-filled and airy, the apartment’s living room showcases wide sea views from the floor to ceiling triple aspect feature window, and a door leads outside to the large covered veranda where meals can be enjoyed in the fresh air and sunshine. Two bedrooms including an en-suite master with sea views and veranda access, as well as a child’s bunk room to the back of the home and a separate WC, provide ample room for a family of four, and the modern kitchen comes well equipped for home cooking.

Home to the iconic Tate St Ives Gallery and the famous Barbara Hepworth Museum, St Ives is also flanked by three beautiful beaches, so if lazing on the sand and paddling the waves is your idea of the ultimate coastal holiday, you’re in for a treat. The town is also a bit of a 'foodie' destination and is packed with numerous terrific restaurants including the award-winning Porthminster Beach Café.

Nearby, the small village of Lelant overlooks the Hayle Estuary, and boasts a the Duchy’s oldest golf course with views stretching up towards Godrevy Lighthouse. A scenic branch railway line links Carbis Bay and St. Ives with the main London-Penzance line at nearby St. Erth.

Free on-street parking available in a quiet cul-de-sac directly outside the property (Wheal Margery), and on the next road adjacent to the property (Treloyhan Park Road), all first come first served.

The location of the property to which this flat belongs is definitely fantastic. The view of Corbis Bay is unrivalled. The temperate climate is an absolute recommendation even in the high summer months for people who do not cope well with extreme heat - and yet the surrounding vegetation gives the impression of a Mediterranean island. However, the roads and paths in the area are a real challenge and are only recommended for visitors who are good walkers. The furnishings of the flat are simple, but very tasteful. However, the flat and furnishings as a whole are in need of renovation and partly worn out. The oven does not work, there is no dishwasher, untangling the cords of the interior blinds from the previous tenants' knots is a real challenge, the bed in the large bedroom has seen its best days, the hinges of the skylights are partially warped and a few other details should be noted. Nevertheless, we were able to overcome these shortcomings with a little improvisation and ultimately enjoyed our stay in this flat. Conclusion: We have certainly not visited Cornwall and St Yves for the last time - although probably not when we booked this flat.
