About this apartment rental
A lovely 1.5 km drive through olive groves brings you to the private, gated entrance. The Apartment Casa Santo is part of a six units farmhouse called 'Il Borghetto' (formerly a rural, rustic farmhouse from the 14th century) in the hills below the village of San Gennaro near Lucca. The apartment is a tasteful blend of rustic, contemporary and antique furnishings. A 5 x 12 metre swimming pool with beautifully manicured lawns is shared by the apartments and is located on the terrace above the apartment with lovely views down the valley toward Lucca.
We are proud to offer a lifestyle in the heart of Tuscany that is truly unique. Picture yourself on the grounds of an historic 14th century building, rebuilt to the highest standards using only traditional Tuscan materials and methods, from handmade terra cotta tiled floors, to chestnut beams and tiled ceilings. The property also makes extensive use of hand built stone walls in keeping with the character and traditions of Tuscany.
There are two large ensuite bedrooms/bathrooms. Lots of light with windows in all bedrooms and bathrooms. Great views from every room.
The location of il Borghetto in San Gennaro is superb. In the medium hills above the Lucca plain and below the historic village of San Gennaro, we offer a piece of solitude in the Tuscan hills. Views of vineyards and olive groves are offered from every vantage point on the property. The newly built property features the stones of the 14th century building that stood on this very spot. Modern inside, the apartment retains the Tuscan charm of handmade terra cotta floors and chestnut beam ceilings throughout. Dedicated shared laundry room.
It is advisable to have a car with high suspension to comfortably navigate the 500-meter country dirt road leading to the house.
Enjoy a scenic 20-minute hike up the hill to San Gennaro, where you can savour a meal at the local trattoria, Il Corno Rosso. The area is surrounded by well-marked hiking paths, maintained by the Club Alpino Italiano, offering numerous opportunities for exploration.

The property is exactly as described - the overall standard is very high and Jim and his wife were great, helped us with little queries and nothing was too much trouble. We really enjoyed the place - a few miles outside Lucca so nice and quiet but so easy to get everywhere really easy. Accommodation was really good with the attention to detail that made it special. We would highly recommend.

We stayed at Casa Santo for a week in August, as soon as we arrived we were blown away by the surroundings and house itself. Beautiful decorated and the standard is very impressive.
When we arrived Jim (host) was there to meet us and show us around, the welcome pack in the room was perfect from pasta, coffee, biscuits and prosecco! After a day of travelling we felt so welcomed and relaxed.
All the children wanted to do was get in the pool which has a back drop of the Italian hills, a perfect setting to relax and enjoy.
Perfect location to visit Lucca, Florence, Pisa and Cinque Terre to name a few. Jim is very knowledgeable of the area and helped with our decisions of how to spend our time in Italy.
Local supermarket only 10 minute drive.
We loved our stay and will definitely be coming back, hopefully with other family and friends who can stay in the other apartments.
A great start to our Italian adventure.

Our entire family - three generations - stayed in various apartments at il Borghetto over the course of almost a month. Each apartment is beautifully appointed with comfortable stylish furnishings and a tasteful combination of old and new. Our host Jim was extremely helpful and accommodating, from making the bookings to being there to welcome us. Il Borghetto's location makes it easy to visit Lucca, Pisa and Florence. At the end of each day of touring it was wonderful to relax by the pool and enjoy dinner under the olive trees. We would certainly stay again.
