A few minutes walk from historic Axbridge pubs and 3 miles from Cheddar Gorge and at the foot of the Mendips this quirky house has lots of character and surprises. Originally a farm house this house is now a blend of medieval and Georgian styles with its large windows. flagstones and elegant fireplaces. A formal Dining room seats up to 16, a sunny Sitting Room a Morning Room and a TV/play room means there is lots of flexible space for family and friends to share. This is a great base for those who enjoy the outdoors - walking, climbing,cycling, golf.

We were celebrating my wife’s 70th birthday, and wanted comfortable and special accommodation for family members and friends. We also wanted to be able to enjoy a grand meal together for up to 14 of us. Compton House was perfect for us - a very unusual and lovely property. Our host was very responsive and very helpful in every way. Thank you so much Patricia, we really enjoyed our stay in your beautiful house.

I booked this property for my Sister’s hen-do and it was just the most perfect property!! The house was extremely well stocked with glasses and crockery. The dining room was amazing, creating such a special experience for a formal dinner. The gardens were beautiful as well! The host, Patricia, was extremely helpful and responsive - I really felt like she wanted to ensure we had the best experience, which we did!! Could not recommend this property more.

11 of us / 3 generations descended on Axbridge to celebrate my mother’s 90th. What a super weekend! Culminating in a wonderful dinner in the formal dining room which was spectacular. We like to cook - and the Kitchen is large and well equipped for big parties. A lovely setting in a lovely village / area. The host was charming and very accommodating.

very different comfortable large house from days gone by, indeed interesting + with enclosed fair sized, tidy gardens our family all enjoyed a weekend stay at at Compton House - bedrooms are a wow!
Kitchen good + its stately dining room were highlights
