About this chalet rental
Bright, rustic & extremely quiet apartment with large south-west balcony with great views of opposite mountain peaks.
- Ideal for families and sports & nature lovers (UNESCO World Heritage, Matterhorn, biggest glacier of Alps).
- Living room with semi-open kitchen & plenty of space for reading (large couch and 2 armchairs).
- very well equipped kitchen with dishwasher, 4 glass ceramic hobs, oven, exhaust hood, raclette oven, fondue, refrigerator, sharp knives, ..
- Internet access (free broadband WLAN)
- entertainment: sound system, mobile box, TV (SAT), large selection of games & books
- dining table with 5-8 seats (adaptable)
-children friendly. small (play) lawn at the house, playground & football/basketball court 200m away.
- no pets & non-smoking
- Additional costs: laundry per person CHF 25, final cleaning CHF 100, other additional costs (visitor's tax etc.) are included in the rental price.
The chalet is located in car-free Aletscharena (romantic flair) at an altitude of almost 2000m. It takes approx. 20min from the gondola mountain station "Riederalp Mitte" & great supermarket (Coop) by foot - electric cabs are available (see Googlemaps "Chalet Rondo 1. Stock").
Arrival at valley station (Mörel) by car or train.

If you want to stay in a large soulless hotel then look elsewhere . There are numerous hotels in this region and I'm sure many are good, but what you get with chalet rondo is the keys to a private family home: echoes of children now presumably grown up; access to the owners' reading matter and musical tastes .
The chalet itself is small but has everything you could need, cleverly designed to maximise the space .
Perched on the side of the mountain the panoramic view from the balcony is of endless mountains including a glacier on the left and the Matterhorn in the distance on the right .
The villages of Riederalp, Bettmeralp and Fiescheralp occupy a car-free plateau (we parked for a week at the cable car station in the valley floor for 60 euros ). Access is via cable car which can be expensive ( a 5 day family pass covering all lifts cost us 230 euros ). However it is worth getting an all-access pass as it allows you to get to different parts of the mountain for walks and attractions . The villages have metalled roads so pull along suitcases are fine, and for excursions the lift pass means that once you are at a certain altitude you can walk on relatively level ground (similar to a walk in Wales or Scotland but not mountain climbing ). So a moderate degree of fitness is required to get around, and while the route to the chalet from the cable car is on a level road the final approach is via a steep grass path so pack light !
