Very quiet location, beautiful country roads Lovely staff and an even better garden Forgot our adapter after checking out and we got a call from the staff .. they were happy to hold onto it for a few days 😊

Only a brief overnight stay. Staff were nice, polite. Breakfast was good. The room was a let down. Huge gaps between the windows and the frame meant cold air and noise from the Xmas do was not great. Ended up folding up a towel and closing the window on to that to try block the gap!

We stayed for one night at what appeared online to be a lovely country hotel in a beautiful rural setting. The building and grounds look charming and full of character, so our expectations were fairly high. Unfortunately, the room and overall experience didn’t live up to that first impression. We specifically requested a quiet room, but were placed directly next to a stairwell with a fire door that banged every time someone passed. On top of that, our window looked out onto a flat roof and the restaurant/conservatory roof below — no countryside view at all, which was disappointing given the location. The room itself felt very tired and poorly maintained. In the shower, the mastic sealant was peeling, the grout was discoloured and orange, and there were cracked and broken floor tiles. The sink plug didn’t appear clean, door handles were extremely worn, blinds were broken, and there were paint chips on the windowsill. There was also a cigarette burn in the duvet and decorative cushions that were split and falling apart. I do have photos of some of these issues. The room fridge was extremely noisy, to the point where we had to turn it off. We could also clearly hear the restaurant below us at closing time — bins being moved, items being put away, and general noise — which again goes against the idea of a quiet stay. A hairdryer was listed as an amenity but there wasn’t one in the room. Staff were polite enough, but service throughout was very slow, despite the hotel not appearing to be busy. We were the only diners in the restaurant that evening. The food was okay but nothing memorable. Breakfast the following morning was another let-down. Service was again slow, and the food appeared to have been sitting under heat lamps rather than freshly cooked. The bacon was so overcooked it was almost inedible, and the eggs were inconsistently cooked — one over-easy, one fully hard. Overall, it didn’t feel freshly prepared. While I can’t say whether all rooms are like this, our room was poor, and it did feel like guests booking through a discounted third-party rate may be allocated the least desirable rooms. Given the condition of the room and the overall experience, I wouldn’t recommend staying here and wouldn’t return. It’s a shame, because the hotel has real potential — but attention to maintenance, cleanliness, room allocation, and food quality is badly needed.
