About this house rental

Welcome to the little restful retreat tiny house in SW Portland! A relaxing getaway to enjoy while you explore all the fun of the city. Located within walking distance of public transport, Multnomah Village, coffee shops, etc., and less than 10 minutes drive to downtown, Lewis & Clark, OHSU, South Waterfront.

The tiny house has many of the comforts of home. A fully stocked kitchenette, comfy beds, and cute bathroom along with a washer/dryer combo.

IMPORTANT: *The location of this Tiny House is 1 block from Custer Park in SW Portland. It's a 15 minute walk to Multnomah Village and only 5 minutes walk from Fred Meyer and the bus line (12) on Barbur Blvd.*

This 20 foot Tiny Home on wheels was built with love and care by a craftsman who loved natural woods -- you can find knotty pine, cedar, and alder woods throughout. Even though its a tiny space there is a very stocked kitchenette (4 burner stove, large microwave, toaster, sink, pots and pans, etc) and full bathroom with shower and RV style toilet.

There are two beds in loft spaces. Bed 1 is a queen mattress and there are stairs up to the sleeping loft. Bed 2 is a full mattress and there is a small ladder up to this lofted bed. Please note that the lofts are short. You cannot stand in the lofts.

The tiny house is situated in a quiet neighborhood just minutes from downtown and about 10 blocks from Multnomah Village or Fred Meyer. Both public transit and parks are just a few blocks away.

We provide clean towels, sheets, blankets, toiletries, soaps, etc. For the summer months, we have a window AC unit and window fans.

Other things to note!

I have found over time that every VRBO is different and every guest’s expectations are different when they book a short term rental. People are especially confused about tiny houses. It is my goal to make sure that I am as transparent as possible so that you can make an educated decision on your choice of where you would like to stay.

GENERAL: Tiny house living is a little like glamping -- glorified camping. Hot showers are *short* as the hot water heater is small. The tiny house is parked in a driveway -- there is no patio or outdoor seating. There is a seating area inside the home with two chairs and a little fold-up table. There is *no* living room lounge, *no* dining room table and *no* TV.

THE TINY-NESS DISCLAIMER: The house is very small (it's tiny!) and the bathroom is very small (tiny!) and it's best suited for those who can fit through smaller (tiny) spaces. There's also a ladder up to one of the sleeping lofts, so it's best fit for people who can climb ladders without issue. The lofts are standard tiny home lofts, which means they are tiny. You can kneel in the loft, but you cannot stand (unless you are very tiny).

WINTER IN A TINY HOUSE: This is a tiny house *on wheels*. It is sitting on a trailer and does not have a foundation. As it doesn’t have a foundation, the plumbing is exposed to the elements. When temperatures go below freezing (only a few weeks out of the year in Portland), it is possible that pipes can freeze. When this happens, we do everything that we can to accommodate, including finding places for you to shower, cook, or potentially stay for the remainder of the cold spell (depending on length). We recommend when the temperatures go below freezing, that you open up all cabinets and turn the heat up high so that the pipes get all the heat they can. However, it is more or less an act of god when the pipes freeze in a tiny house. When booking this tiny house, you are acknowledging this reality and that you are essentially “glamping”. It’s really nice glamping with cooking, plumbing, showers, heat and a warm bed to sleep in. But it is not the same as staying in a regular house.

PET POLICY: All pets must be approved in advance. You must confirm that the animal has no history of property destruction, indoor urination/defecation, aggression, or excessive noise. I expect you to have the animal with you or crated when you're not home. In order to maintain an allergen-low environment for other guests, I have the cleaners do deep cleans after every animal stays there and hire a carpet / upholstery cleaner if necessary. Any undisclosed pet will result in a large penalty. FEES: Dogs and cats: 14 days or less: $100 // 15 days or more: $200. This fee does not cover any damages caused by the pet that result in excessive cleaning or repairs.

ESAs / Service animals: If you have an ESA animal please send us a copy of the paperwork including the letter from your healthcare provider. If you have a service animal trained to help you with a disability, we will be asking you the following legally allowable questions:

1) Is the service animal required because of a disability?

2) What work or task has the animal been trained to perform? (Your disability does *not* need to be disclosed)

NOISE: No excessive noise. No parties. No yelling.

SMOKING: No smoking anywhere on the property

CLEANING: Sometimes a cleaner does a poor job and it catches me (and you!) off guard. Please let me know if the cleaner missed something(s) important and allow me to fix the issue. I assure you that I strongly value cleanliness and any lack of cleanliness is not on purpose.

SUPPLIES: We provide you enough supplies to get you through a month. If you end up staying more than a month, it is on you to purchase your own supplies (e.g. TP, shampoo, etc)

Check in was easy. Unit was very clean. Neighborhood was very nice and conveniently located. The shower was laid out very well. Communication was excellent and check out a breeze. One caveat: If you are used to tiny or trailer living, it is not a problem. You will enjoy your time here. If not, be forwarned the issues will be in not being able to sit up straight in the bed, moving the kitchen table as it is not a fold out wall unit, and water and appliance issues happen. Normal tiny house issues but mat be a surprise to those unaccustomed to this residence style.

To be honest, I was a bit unsure as to what I signed my wife and myself up for when booking this property. Just how tiny would this tiny house be? Would we be freezing? Constantly hitting our heads? Tripping over our belongings? Fortunately, the stay was better than we could have hoped. This property definitely lived up to the title of tiny house, but it does so with exquisite attention to detail, design, and comfort. There was plenty of thoughtful storage options for our belongings (including a place to hang a suit and a dress), the heaters were more than adequate to keep us toasty, and the bathroom, kitchen, and bed felt plenty large for the two of us. I think this property would be a challenge for individuals with limited range of motion, difficulties balancing, or a need to be connected to internet. For us, it was a delightful opportunity to try out a minimalist lifestyle and reconnect with ourselves and each other, without sacrificing comfort. I definitely recommend it!
