The apartment was absolutely gorgeous. The view from the balcony and bedroom were spectacular. The unit was spotless and well kept. A true gem. It is up high just below the castle which gives it an incredibly rustic, and historical feel. This of course means there's a lot of walking, and tons of steps. If you have difficulty walking, or find steps physically challenging, this may not be for you. For us this wasn't a problem. If anything, it added to our experience. I highly recommend this place. It's a short walk down about 100 steps to restaurants and shops on the port side. Tons of options with a beautiful atmosphere. We loved it. My youngest would just sit in a chair with the balcony doors open admiring the view.
The hosts were wonderful as well. We communicated with Camilla via email and Whatsapp after booking and prior to arriving. Then met Angelica at the parking spot. She walked us to the unit, gave us the keys, and did a walk thru to show us everything and answer any questions we had. When we left, we met Maurizio who we handed the keys to. All were super nice, spoke English, and were extremely gracious.
This isn't a con. It's just how it is when you travel to a historical place in Italy. There are a lot of steps, and the parking can be a challenge. This unit does have a dedicated parking spot, which in Italy, is a true luxury. The parking spot is just a little further up near the castle, so you will have to walk your luggage down to the unit, which also means going down (and then up) about 20 or so stairs. Most of the steps you'll be traveling are the old, historical, rustic kind you see in centuries old alley's that run between houses. For us it was actually beautiful, but nevertheless, there are a lot of stairs in old Gaeta so come prepared to walk them.
