About this cottage rental

Fall in love with this utterly gorgeous bolthole for two – a Grade II listed studio barn in the village of St Levan just outside of Porthcurno. Beautifully restored and converted, Rest House forms an idyllic retreat in one of Cornwall’s most beautiful coastal locations and is perfect for couples seeking time away for relaxation, peace and quiet.

Small yet flawlessly proportioned, the property has everything you’ll need to feel completely comfortable during your stay. What makes Rest House really unique however is the quality of the building’s restoration, its tastefully styled interior, and the sense of space created outside by the walled courtyard garden where you’ll be able to eat or drink alfresco in the sunshine.

When the weather’s wet you can curl up with a good book on the sofa or cosy up next to the wood-burner which even has a small oven on top for you to warm fresh locally made pasties for lunch. The clean and contemporary bathroom with a its large walk-in shower is great for de-sanding in after the beach and if you feel like rustling up your own holiday fare the amply equipped bijou kitchen has all you’ll need for it. An inviting double bed completes the space and with its deep mattress and crisp bedding, you’ll be tempted to enjoy numerous long morning lie-ins before setting off to explore the nearby coast paths, beaches and historic sites of the area.

And speaking of beaches, a handful of Cornwall’s best lie on the doorstep. Famed for their white sands, beautiful boulder formations and water of a staggering shade of turquoise, Porthcurno and Pedn Vounder are an absolute must-visit, as is the lesser known but beautifully unspoilt beach of Nanjizal which can be found less than 1.5 miles from the barn. Close by too is the iconic Minack Theatre which perches on a cliff above the sea, and here you’ll be able to take in an open-air production, music concert or festival, depending on the theatre’s programming.

1 pet accepted: Please advise the Luxury Coastal team directly if you would like us to host your pet after completing your booking. A charge of £40 per pet per stay/week will be applicable and required before your stay. We will arrange and invoice with you directly upon booking confirmation.

We ask our guests for a £75 good housekeeping bond, which is pre-authorised against your card. This is in case there is any damage to the property during your stay. The money is simply reserved and then released afterwards if there is no claim. We will contact you nearer the time of your arrival to arrange this.

Guests with allergies need to be aware that there is a cat on the premises and other cats and dogs in the neighbourhood.

Instructions on how to to get there and gaining entrance were very clear, however we soon chose to drive the long way round via Sennen for better roads. The kitchen was well equipped however instructions on how to use the cooker would be useful as the marking on the controls have worn off. The bed was really comfortable with good quality linen. We did have an issue in that the shower broke on our second day, however this was sorted very quickly and a new shower was fitted. The communication throughout this problem was very good and we were offered the opportunity to use the shower in the owners property next door, although we declined. As others have said there are signs of damp, however this is a converted stone barn and a dehumidifier is provided so if used it helps. The outside area is all gravel, our dog came with us and she was able to mooch about safely as it is fully enclosed. There is a large area of grass about a minutes walk away. There were lots of dog friendly places to eat and visit locally.

We've stayed here before so knew what to expect from The Rest House. Great location for coastal walks from Porthgwarra, Treen, Mousehole etc. Compact accomodation but if your out and about this isn't an issue. I would add there was an issue with woodlice - the owner did acknowledge this and the seals on the door were being replaced but there were lots of them. TBH for me there are some issues people should be aware of - sounds petty but worthy of note. It is small and if the weather wasn't good you would be a bit cramped. It is also a bit light at night from the ceiling window and lights on radiators and smoke alarm. We had to take the batteries out of what must be the noisiest clock in the world and the fridge is very noisy and kicks in throughout the night. I only mention these because it is a great little place, with parking and a great base - but not somewhere if you are looking for a place where you might want to stay in and relax with a book all day etc

We enjoyed our stay. Would not describe our accommodation as “luxury”. Damp was coming through on the external wall by the bed after rain and the outdoor furniture and outside area was a bit unkept. The house is well appointed and fitted out.
