Seaside Home with Plenty of Space and Features for 30+ Day Rental

Our multi-generational group of 8 found this house to be incredibly spacious, well-stocked, and impeccably clean. The host is very responsible and helpful (an issue we had with a shower handle was fixed the next day) and everything you need to manage the house is clearly labeled. The location is close to both Monterey and Salinas, and hiking in Fort Ord National Monument can begin from your front door.

House was very clean, beds were very comfortable and owner was fast to respond. He called to let us know of a potential power outage so we could be prepared but it didn’t happen. Would recommend and stay here again.

The house is large and has the potential to be quite nice. However, it smelled bad, wasn't very clean, and was not furnished comfortably. We stayed for a month and had to spend the first few days cleaning, unclogging drains, trying to get rid of bad odors, throwing out old expired food, etc. The home has mostly ornate, decorative Indian furniture. It is interesting, but not comfortable. The rest of the furniture is very cheap and flimsy. Uncomfortable mattresses, one of the particle board bed frames breaking, etc. The master closet is locked and there is no dresser there. You only have access to a small wardrobe, so plan to live out of your suitcase. The dryer was not functioning properly when we arrived. We contacted the host. He WAS responsive, and did get the dryer repaired within a couple days. HOWEVER, I mentioned some of the other concerns we had, and he was dismissive. He tried to make me feel that we should feel lucky to be getting such a great price (we didn't feel it was great for what we got), told us what a great host he is, and suggested that we were unappreciative. The neighborhood is great. My kids enjoyed the playgrounds and we took frequent walks and bike rides. It is a great location to access Monterey, Carmel, Salinas, and for day trips down to Big Sur and even up to the Bay Area. I wouldn't choose to stay in this home again, but maybe the host will take note of some of these issues and it can be a nicer place for another family in the future.
