About this house rental

Shorepark is a delightful waterside holiday cottage with stunning views, sitting just a stone’s throw from the estuary of the River Nith on the edge of Glencaple village, within a National Scenic Area. The old part of the house was originally a fisherman’s cottage, thought to have been built in the 1700’s, giving this part an old-world feel with its original beams, reputed to be old ships’ timbers. It has been extended in more recent times in a clean modern beach-house style, with a huge picture window giving a stunning panoramic view of the river, the birdlife, and the landscape beyond.
Picturesque Glencaple, with its old quayside on the tidal estuary of the River Nith, together with nearby Kingholm Quay, was the main seaport for the town of Dumfries back in sailing-ship days.
For those not travelling by car or motorcycle, there is a railway station at Dumfries, five miles away, from which Glencaple can be reached by bus or taxi.
Only 5 miles from the amenities of Dumfries, it is a charming and peaceful place, and is an ideal base from which to explore Dumfries & Galloway, which is a beautiful, remarkably uncrowded and unspoiled part of Scotland.
Shorepark Cottage on the edge of Glencaple village sleeps up to 6 people very comfortably in three bedrooms. It has a fascinating character: modern in the newer part, but with an older feel in the original 18th century part.
An outstanding feature is the stunning view from the lounge over the River Nith and the landscape beyond, and including views of the rich birdlife in the area.
Accommodation consists of an open-plan lounge, kitchen and dining area.
There are three double bedrooms, one with a king size bed and en-suite shower and toilet. There is also a second bathroom with a bath/shower.
There is underfloor heating in all rooms and the lounge also has a log burning stove.
French doors lead to an attractive garden with river views, a semi'covered covered decking area and outside seating looking over the garden and the river.
All three bedrooms and the lounge have flat screen Panasonic 40 inch Freesat Smart TVs and access to free Wifi.
There is a heat recovery system.
There is on-site parking for two cars.
Bed linen, towels, tea towels and toiletries are provided.
The kitchen contains a fridge freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, ceramic hob, microwave, double oven, kettle and toaster.
A travel cot, high chair and barbecue are all available on request prior to arrival.
Eating Out Nearby:
Nith Hotel, Glencaple – 2 mins walk – breakfast, lunch, dinner, bar.
The Boathouse Bistro and Shop, Glencaple – 2 mins walk –brunch/lunch, basic groceries and gifts.
The Swan, Kingholm Quay – 3 miles – pub meals, bar, garden.
The village is close to the Caerlaverock National Nature Reserve and the associated Caerlaverock Wetland Centre, where a wide range of waterbirds can be seen at close quarters. The area is particularly famous for Barnacle Geese and Whooper Swans, and is an ideal base for nature lovers.
Also nearby is the spectacular moated Caerlaverock Castle, which is under the care of Historic Environment Scotland. Besieged, damaged and restored many times over the centuries since its 13th century origin, it is the very archetype of a medieval castle.
