Santa Lucia Maccarese - Residenza Agricola

Atmosphere

Santa Lucia is an amazing little oasis less than half an hour from the Rome airport and less than 10 minutes from the sea. Both the inside and outside spaces are beautifully designed for comfort and style - modern and warm. The pool area is luxurious (incredibly comfortable chaise lounges) and the restaurant serves delicious food based on what's grown in their garden. Their homemade focaccia and bread is out of this world. But it is the people who work there who also make the place so special: Alessia, Valentina, and Julia were such a delight and couldn't have been more helpful. (and the man originally from India who spoke English, serving breakfasts and fixing pool umbrellas, etc. was also incredibly nice and helpful - unfortunately, I forgot to get his name). Thanks again to all of you!! Grazie tanto!

The only thing that could have been better would have been to be able to stay longer! Alla prossima!

Nothing all is good

The property was beautifully designed, with lovely outdoor furniture, plants, etc. The pools were really nice and the garden round the back was also so lovely and tranquil. The food we ate at the restaurant was tasty and we also liked the breakfasts.

We felt the service was quite lacking. We didn’t get much info when we arrived (it would’ve been helpful to know the basics e.g. when breakfast was / how it worked, how to book in for dinner if we wanted to, what food they offered at lunch time, how to get around if we wanted to leave the hotel, etc.). Additionally, it was rare that any of the staff would come over and ask if we wanted refreshments whilst we were sat by the pool, which seems very unusual and meant we were having to get up and find someone to ask. This is fine, but it was often the case that no staff were really around so it was difficult to find someone. Similarly, when we had issues with the room (key card stopped working multiple times + light switch broke), we often found there was no one manning reception (despite being within the claimed opening hours). Again, this meant either having to wait around until someone came back or walking round the hotel trying to find an employee. The room itself was nice, but we were surprised that there was no wardrobe/drawers despite booking one of the garden rooms. This meant we had to live out of our suitcases. There were also 2 cigarette butts in our garden area which were not ours (we don’t smoke). Finally, it was a shame that the restaurant wasn’t a bit more flexible with catering towards vegetarians. There were only a couple of vegetarian main dishes on the menu, so I was rather limited in what I could eat. Most restaurants would typically offer to make something up, even if very simple. We didn’t get that here.
