Clear instructions from the hosts regarding the keys and nearby parking options. The cottage was comfortable and homey and a lovely place to stay while in Blakney.

Nothing to dislike but maybe worth highlighting that the stairs to the bedrooms are steep and winding and wouldn’t suit everyone (may also be tricky if you have large or heavy luggage).

The location, quirkiness, comfy sofas, comfy beds, clean bed linen and towels. Dishwasher, coffee plunger, Smart TV WiFi was great but the logon credentials are wrong. Easy to get in but keys not where they said they would be and no front door key provided . If there was a fire you would not be able to get out the front door. We located it on the floor of the outhouse behind the door in a little pot. Don’t be put off by my comments below. The owner was shocked the cleaner had left it like this and she did everything she could from afar to help. I would say though if everyone ignores the cobwebs and mould etc. The cleaners carry on just zipping in and out. Interestingly I have read other reviews on other properties in this area and there are lots of complaints about cleaners.

Parking —> although free on road parking is available this would cause chaos so we paid the £6.50 to park opposite and ensure our car wasn’t scratched or we weren’t a nuisance to others passing. This didn’t impact us but others should be aware. Garden - the garden is down an alleyway and shared. It is not enclosed and there is a rather rude sign saying it is shared. There is a tiny bistro set outside the back door but this is rusty and filthy. This is on a walk way to the cottage next door. This didn’t impact us but others should be aware. Stairs - these are lethal and the incline is incredibly steep and spiralled round. This is not suitable for children or the elderly. Kitchen - filthy dirty and we had to ask for the cleaners to come back. The owner is living away and totally beholden to the staff she employs. It was disgusting and surfaces had been unattended for weeks. There was mould and ground in dirt in the bin crevices, thick layers of dust on top of the oven extractor, pots and pans with old food, cracked glasses and chipped cups, cutlery tray filled with old crumbs and dust. The toaster had loads of old crumbs and the little trays on the back were filled. Limescale in kettle and all around taps. Bathroom - filthy dirty. Mould, soap scum, body hair, limescale. Again cobwebs, dust and just total neglect by the cleaners. Weeds were everywhere (look at picture of seating area outside back door, next to neighbours gate), paint falling off the front of the house, window sills rotting , garden furniture rusty and dirty (see picture) and there was much TLC missing. It was puzzling because the property had been painted in Farrow and Ball and had clearly had money spent on throws, cushions, curtains etc but it was definitely reflective of the standard you get from and absent owner and a terrible cleaning company. To make matters worse the cleaning person sat in her car outside and stared at us as though it were our fault she had been caught out.
