Starting with the good things - the apartment is set above the harbour in an attractive small town - all shops and facilities are within easy walking distance and there is a good view from the front window. We were given a car parking sticker and were able to park next to the apartment. The apartment itself was a bit bleak and unwelcoming. Several lights had lost their shades so we gazed at naked bulbs and a couple of lights over the sofa would have let us read more easily. The advertised internet never worked - my laptop could see the router but never got any further. Luckily my UK mobile data was just enough to see us through, listening to BBC R4 in the week that Queen Elizabeth died. Hot water was a bit variable and at 11.00 pm one night, all electricity died. The following morning I found that the circuit for the refrigerator was shorting out. Our local contact, Natalie, found a neighbour to investigate. The solution was to run a long extension cable but at least the fridge was working again. Unfortunately, when the fuse board tripped, the water heating stopped. The next day, I was able to get a message from the owner explaining how to reset the fuse board after which we had hot water again. Fancy a shower? I hope your wife/partner/companion likes watching you washing as the shower is right there in the bedroom! The bed was comfortable although we had to bring our own bed linen. Otherwise the apartment was well equipped except for cooking pots: one giant casserole (fine), one enormous pan (OK) and one tiny pan (good for boiled eggs). The two-burner induction hob was too small to take the two big pots together so a medium size saucepan would have been very useful. There was not much evidence of the apartment having been cleaned properly (sticky breakfast bar anyone?) and we left it cleaner than when we arrived. We loved Le Conquet but …
