The site is remote, perfect for what we were looking for, but there is not 'walk to the shop or local pub', however it is just off a main road, and there is easy parking for the accomodation.
There are 3 spacious rooms (bedroom with ensuite, living room and kitchen) and all are well supplied. The bed is really comfortable, and plenty of towels were provided. Usual bathroom supplies include shampoo, conditioner and body wash, plus a variety of other items that I assume have been left by previous guests.
The Living room was comfortable and cosy, with a great view when the blind and curtains were open. TV had Freeview and Netflix available, so plenty of options.
The kitchen has all the necessary equipment (fridge, freezer, cooker, microwave, washing machine), there are also basic items such as salt, pepper, cooking oil, washing powder, tea bags, coffee, sugar). We cooked and ate there most evenings.
The location is very central to Ireland, meaning it's about 1½ hours to Dublin park and ride and similar to Galway. There are other, closer gems though, such as Athlone with the castle and Longford (visit the Tourist Information Centre if you visit there, they are so friendly, and there is a tour of the town available on a headset that they give away. There are lots of walks and canoeing opportunities in the area.
The host was always available and friendly, answering my (very few) questions promptly.
I wasn't sure what to do with recycling as there was only one bin and it wasn't mentioned, however, this was cleared up by the host really quickly.
The main freezer (in the fridge) is broken, but there is no signage, however there is a second, fully functional freezer available, so it's not a big issue.

I liked the accommodation it was clean comfortable and there was chocolate left for the boys Megan answered any questions promptly and was cheerful.the Tv and netflicks for the childrenwas great over the holidays.we were near familyand Cavan a plus.i would recommend Carraig house a nice little gem in a good location.😀🎄🎄🎄👍🏻
The only little thing there was no recycling bin to put cardboard but we managed.
