I stayed with my wife for 2 days for a short trip at Pengambengan Port. The hotel is really calm (far from main street which frequent by big trucks at midnight), we have rice field view nearby the hotel (although it was after harvest when we got there), the food is good with very affordable price. The room is surprisingly clean for budget hotel. Outside our room, we can see the garden while enjoying our morning tea.

I had room H in this small, homely complex, and was happy with it. The aircon was efficient, the room size spacious and although there wasn’t a wardrobe, there were other storage spaces. I booked knowing that there wasn’t a fridge, but it definitely would’ve been handy to have had one. Also, during my 3 days there, the shower had no hot water. I’m unsure if this is a constant or not, and I didn’t need hot water during the month of early April, as it was very humid and hot in Negara. So cool water was fine for me. Whilst there was no hand basin, I found I didn’t really need one. The shower is over the bath, and the room size is limited The staff are all very nice, but only 1 of the 6 girls actually speaks good English. But we managed ok with the use of Google translate. We used the takeaway menu in the room a few times. Delicious dishes and so very cheap, with no delivery fee either. Although I did tip the deliverer. We met the owner Gusti only as we were departing, but he appeared to be a very nice man. The masseuse that they call upon if needed, Eka, is a professional, and it was so nice being massaged in the cool air of my room. Highly recommend Eka’s skills. Whilst it was an 20 minute walk into the main street, I actually liked being surrounded by paddy fields and very friendly home-owners in that street. All in all, a lovely stay with genuinely nice people.

I really enjoyed my stay at Jepun Hotel, which is located in a quiet area on the outskirts of Negara. Set amongst other houses and paddy fields, it has a village feel to it. The walk into the Main Street takes around 20 minutes, but there are lots of little Warungs and small minimart shops in the area. Whilst many of the staff spoke little English, apart from 1 young girl, we managed to communicate by gestures or Google Translate. There is also a very professional Masseuse on call, so you can have a massage in your room. Very reasonably priced!! And we can highly recommend EKA’s services. We loved our bright spacious cosy rooms which had efficient aircon and a free standing fan. Whilst there are plenty of coffee tables and chairs, there isn’t anywhere to hang ones clothes, however I imagine this is more a short-stay hotel than a vacation one. The bathroom, whilst small is quite functional. The shower is over the bath, and the taps double as a “hand basin”. I could only get cold water in my shower, but as this was the wet and humid season, I didn’t miss having hot water. There are no tea/coffee making facilities , but staff will bring you a jug of hot water when required. There is no restaurant onsite., but you can order very cheap takeaway meals delivered to your doorstep by the Warung the hotel uses. Food was delicious!! I did miss having a fridge though, but I knew this before I made the booking. Extra blankets or sheets are always available, annd are exceptionally clean, and the staff keep the rooms and grounds spotless. This little Balinese family-owned hotel is a wee gem, and seemed to be full every night that we were there (4). The tariff is extremely reasonable, great value for money, and we loved the location,. However, be prepared to hear the Mosque Call to Prayers and roosters crowing in the early morning. It all adds to the “village feel” though, and we loved the experience of staying here. Well done Gusti on running such a well-run friendly hotel! 💚
