About this bed and breakfast

***ALL PROFITS SUPPORT THE HORSES OF PERIDOT EQUINE SANCTUARY***
The rustic decor and well lit space reflects the nature of our horse farm & sanctuary, where you can stay for a peaceful country getaway. We're rural, but you'll still have easy access to lots of amenities in the wonderful nearby town of Chardon, less than 10 minutes away. Cleveland itself, currently going through a "rustbelt renaissance" is only about 45 minutes minutes West. We welcome guests of all backgrounds!

The space
Complete one bedroom, one bath apartment attached to our home. The unit has its own garage and private entrance, washer & dryer, fully equipped kitchen (refrigerator, range/oven, 2 basin sink, plates, glasses, silverware, cookware, coffee maker, microwave). It also has a fenced in side yard for dogs, with door access through the laundry room. We're a dog friendly property! There's a wood burning stove, with plenty of wood in the garage and front side yard. There's also a small deck off the back door, with a view of the barn and some pastures.

Guest access
Guests may use/access anything and everything that's obviously part of the Guesthouse unit. We welcome interest in the horses, but ask guests not to enter the barn or pastures with out Lindsay or my husband Jason. We also ask that guests who bring dogs, keep them in the fenced in yard. We do an extremely quiet, controlled, non threatening one on one introduction through the fence, which allows our resident dogs to know who is staying here. After the introduction they typically go about their own business and are quite content having some temporary guests to share their property with. This process has worked well for all types of dogs; young, old, insecure, rambunctious, shy, loud, quiet, multiple dogs, large dogs, small dogs, dogs that are friendly, dogs that are unfriendly. The side yard is plenty large enough for even the bigger pups to run around and get some excess energy out or stretch their legs after being in the car. We provide doggy poop bags near the door to help keep the yard beautiful for the next guest and their puppy.

Other things to note
*We are not an official 501-C3 non-profit. We are a self-funded sanctuary (with an unincorporated non-profit status) that has taken in horses with behavioral issues over the course of Lindsay's lifetime of work with horses. As such, they are not suitable for guests to ride or handle. Additionally, our insurance does not allow it.

**Due to the constraints on our time as a self-funded and self-run facility, we are no longer offering our barn tour and introduction to the horses as a complimentary amenity. For $10 per person we would be happy to arrange a barn tour and introduction to the horses ahead of time. We schedule our barn tours and introduction to the horses at 9:30 AM after breakfast, when all the horses are still in the barn. After that, they are turned out in the fields for the day and can only be observed over the fence at that point. We would be happy to answer questions you may have about care, feeding and horses in general during the barn tour.

***While the property is overall extremely peaceful, this is a working horse farm. We make every effort to keep noise and disruption to a minimum for our guests, but at times there is ongoing maintenance and repair of the property and equipment, to keep things running. We also have a dump trailer used for manure removal in the winter. That said, we've never had complaints about manure odors as we try to keep the barn and property very clean.

****Our check in time is 4pm and check out time is 12noon. There is an additional $25 fee for early check-ins/late check-outs up to 2pm on either side. A check in/out earlier/later than 2pm is subject to availability and is a $75 fee, due to having to block out the night prior/after to accommodate such requests.

*****Internet: We've placed a WiFi range extender in the unit, to allow access to our home network. Simply refresh the network settings on your laptop or mobile device, until you see the network names listed above. *Please note the "_Ext" at the end of the network name. That is the WiFi range extender. Our home networks are the same, but without the "_Ext" suffix. If you mistakenly connect to our home network, you'll have a poor connection. Lastly, the "2G" generally has a longer range, while the "5G" has shorter range but can be slightly faster.

Very peaceful and comfortable stay just minutes from downtown chardon. The side yard was also perfect for my pup to play in. It was lovely watching the horses outside the guest house and I enjoyed the barn tour to meet them in person. Overall a very pleasant and welcoming visit!

Lindsey and her husband are so warm and welcoming! The room was clean and ready for us. We loved the fenced in area for our pets and the beautiful view of the horses and acreage. It was a little chilly so they came over and helped us make a fire. Bed was very comfortable. Nice restaurants close. Just an overall great stay and experience. We look forward to coming back!

Bonnie's Guesthouse was absolutely perfect for our stay in Ohio for class reunions. My husband uses a walker and the guesthouse was wide open enough for him to move around with no struggle. We brought a shower stool with us so he was able to shower in the tub/shower. We did go out and purchase a riser for the commode because it was very low for him to get up from. The riser was portable, so it helped immensely. Those are my two recommendations for anyone looking for a place to stay with someone with a disability. The fact that I could pull into the garage and he only had to walk a few steps into the house was truly a blessing! We also brought with us a little 24" Roku TV that we put on top of the woodburning stove so he could sit and watch his sports while I was gone. I can't say enough good things about the guesthouse and Lindsay, the host.

It was beautiful to look out at the horses in the field with the trees behind showing fall colors. It was a quick stop on our way to Indianapolis. Carpets were a bit soiled which I guess can’t be avoided in rainy weather . It was nice to have a fenced in area for our dogs. We were not able to get the TV to work.
