I booked the last room they had on Agoda/***. The photo of the room that I have posted showed a queen bed with nightstands and a balcony. What I got was the smaller room with a single bed and a "terrace" that was actually a communal backyard with lounge chairs, which meant I could not leave it open to get fresh air and had to draw the curtains when it was 31C. I was told I had booked the last room. It had been a long day of 7 hours of driving, other options would have cost over *** as the town was full of tourists, and I was too tired to look for another hotel. I was wrong!!
Within two hours the constant commotion in the hallway made me aware that a large troupe of at least fifty young college age men were staying there also, visiting each others' rooms and talking in the hallway. I was also right next to the service elevator. Quiet did not come until 1AM.
The breakfast was astonishingly spartan, and I basically decided to skip it.
The entire set up, from the clutter of the reception desk in full view, to the disarray at the breakfast area, to the multi color and aged set of towels that remind you of what you use to wash your car, will tell you that this hotel survives by the mere fact that it is in Merano and it will be full on a warm weekend in May. Just don't book their last room, and if the young man who checks you in tells you with a grin "you got a nice room" as he did with me, just put the keys down and look for another option.
