The location and the cleanliness

The beds we're not comfortable. They were too soft

The property is in an excellent location. You are close to the port, great restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacy, beaches, you’re in the middle of all the great stuff Marseille has to offer.

Kitchen has the bare minimum. Two tiny fridges packed with good for the entire property. The cleaning ladies can get quite loud and rambunctious. Bathroom floors get wet and peed on by guests. It would be nice to have some rubber mats in there.

Excellent front desk and housekeeping staff, very hygienic facilities and a great mix of younger and older fellow guests. Fantastic location near the port, grocery stores cafes and restaurants. Very comfortable beds and spacious dorm rooms.

No really big deal but on the night of 3/14/26 I had an online meeting so I need to use the common lounge but the front desk overnight receptionist was playing music loudly so I asked him to lower the volume. He rolled his eyes and begrudgingly complied. The next morning I asked him for a piece of scrap paper and he told me to wait. I waited a few minutes but it seemed like he did not want to take a second to give it to me. A few minutes later I heard him raise his voice at another guest in a dismissive tone. I got the feeling that this particular receptionist thought the guests were there to serve him but instead of him being there to serve us.

It was close to everything. The rooms were very big and had a table and a chair, which I always appreciate to leave my things. I appreciate the toilette and bathroom inside the room, I’ve noticed it’s a thing in France.

The shared kitchen was dirty and poorly equipped. Personally I had a bad experience because they messed up my booking and took my things away from my bed while I was away (I still had a night left) and they ended up losing my towel, a travel pillow and my clothes I had left on my bed. The front desk guy fixed it for me and assigned me a new room but even though I know ir wasn’t his fault I was expecting a more compensating attitude since it was clearly the hostel’s responsibility (at least someone could have helped me carry my bags to the room). This brings me to another point which is the rooms are in different buildings and there are many stairs in between and no elevator or ramp to make things easier.
