B & B La Terrazza sul mare

The host was friendly, offering suggestions to local restaurants. There was an extensive array of breakfast choices everyone morning.

Would recommend renting a car in order to tour Elba island; the bus system on the island is slow.

Maurizio garantit un accueil personnalisé et chaleureux. Avec lui, le maître des lieux, convivialité, simplicité, jovialité sont au rendez-vous. Et le point de vue sur Portoferraio peut difficilement être plus spectaculaire. On est au 9ème étage avec vue sur le port, la viile et la montagne ceinturée par la forteresse de Cosimi I. Tout est près, les cafés, des commerces, le coeur de la ville et la gare de bus est dans cette tour pas joli de l’extérieur mais à l’intérieur on ne la voit pas!. La plage à 10 minutes. Localisation idéale pour tout. commerces, Chambre très confortable et bon déjeuner.

We stayed one night in La Terraza sul Mare before catching the ferry back from Portofarraio to Piambino. The B&B is a 5 min walk from the ferry terminal and a 10 min walk from the picturesque old town where there are loads of cafes, bars and restaurants. The B&B is situated on the 9th floor of the tallest building in Portofarraio with superb views over the harbour and the huge Medici citadel which dominates the town. The entrance to the building is quite franky horrible and involves climbing a dingy and quite long flight of stairs which if you've got heavy luggage could be a problem. There is level access from the car park at the rear of the premises which avoids the stairs but this is not obvious when you arrive and this was not mentioned in the information provided by the owner who speaks no English. There is a lift up to the 9th floor and once inside the apartment you are in a diferent world. The appartment is beautifully and tastefully furnished and is spotlessly clean. There are 2 bedrooms in the apartment the doors to which lock as each room is separately let with a communal living and dining room where a cold buffet style breakfast is served by the Italian owner. There is plenty of choice with lots of fresh fruit and cheese. Our room was small as was the bathroom but it was perfectly adequate for a short stay. But for the horrible access I would have rated the property more highly.
