On check in the staff were exceptionally friendly and couldnt do enough a lovely touch.
We ate in the hotel in the evening and again the staff were very attentive and the food was delicious.
The room was very comfortable with tea/coffee/biscuits
The bathroom was very small and tired. There was not much room between the sink and the bath/shower.
The tiles could do with replacing/updating.

It was a half-way house from York to Devon to split the journey.
Superior room was extremely ordinary! The en-suite was tiny: no room even for a soap on the small sink. The bedroom was directly over the kitchen and the banging and calling was disturbing. Not up to standard.
The hotel plainly thought that their food was top-notch going by the OTT descriptions, ingredient details and pricings for evening meals; it wasn’t as good as they think. Breakfast was reasonable. The old dining hall is impressive but the reception area is dowdy and uninspiring. Overall, not what we expected so close to Highgrove - it was a disappointing stop-over.
