The hostel is in the heart of the historical part of Matera, so everything is reachable witihn short time (except for big discount grocery stores).
The building has basically one huge room divided by curtains.
In the common area there is a comfortable sofa as well as chairs; wifi works well.
There is a small kitchen niche suitable for some basic cooking.
3 bathrooms with showers are disposable, too.
The host, Ricco, is super friendly and attentive.
Dislike:
As the different spaces are not separated by walls, there is no isolaton whatsoever.
The beds are installed very close to each other, which during the peak season, will be quite uncomfortable.
From 20.30 to 09.15 on the following morning the lights are turned off (centrally), which I found uncomfortable, too.

I had a great experience staying at this hostel! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful from the moment I arrived. The check-in process was smooth, and they were happy to provide recommendations for local spots and things to do.

The hostel was on the edge of the old town but part of a loop that meant it was a good location for walking and exploring. I came back to have a break and head out again as the sun gets really hot in the middle of the day. Once you walk around the labyrinth of streets you then realise it is a good location. It is a long way from the main bus stop for connecting to other towns. I walked and it took 30mins. There are local buses you can catch but you need to allow time for delays. Rocco the manager can help with bus information. The code to the door meant you could come and go easily. There was a small kitchen and small lounge area, nothing fabulous but better than none.
My bed likely had bugs as I got badly bitten. I forgot that some hostels give you the sheets and expect you to make the bed. It happened here and then other places after that, so must be something that happens in this part of the world. Also the bed was in one massive L shaped room. No privacy curtain. There is a locker of sorts but it is in the lounge area and my lock was too short to lock it securely. There is a kitchen but it has basic facilities and some are broken. There are also some strict limits on hours of use, though was not a big issue. The facility could do with a thorough clean.
