About this farm stay rental
Carrowcullen is an 1880s stone farmhouse, set on the Wild Atlantic Way in the Ox Mountains amongst 14 acres of unspoiled pastures. It has been assessed by Failte Ireland to meet the Welcome Standard. It offers guests a 'walk-back-in-time' experience while meeting modern comforts. Guests enter the farmhouse through the centre door leading into the kitchen. The parlour and sitting rooms are on either side of the kitchen on the ground floor and both have log burners. On the first floor are a master double bedroom with sink, a twin bedroom with sink, a single room, and a bathroom with cast iron bath and over bath shower on the first floor. On the ground floor the traditional kitchen's modern appliances are hidden as part of the walk-back-in-time experience. The kitchen's facilities are: gas cooker, under-counter fridge with small freezer compartment, small dishwasher, an original oak table with tuck under chairs, a central island (containing the under-counter fridge/freezer) and large butler's sink. Under the stairs and off the kitchen, there is a cloakroom (toliet and sink). The sitting room has a toliet and sink behind a screen to accommodate guests who might find the original steep staircase a challenge. The farmhouse is set well back from a quiet country lane on a private lane which connects to a forestry lane and the country road, offering a quiet short 'loop' stroll. One of the Sligo walking trails is minutes away . The local beaches Dunmoran Strand and Aughris Head are located within a short drive. Local shops offer produce and fuel (Collery's in Beltra and Adabrone in Dromore and on Saturday mornings in season Beltra Market offers fresh vegetables, food, eggs, baked goods and crafts. Carrowcullen is a working farm; pets must be booked in advance and subject to additional charges. Wifi throughout the house; small tv with satellite and dvd player. Linens and towels provided.

Our host, Trudy was wonderful and ensured we had everything we needed during our 2 night stay. The home is beautiful!!

Trudy is an extremely attentive host. The home has been restored with care, and her passion for an authentic experience for guests is evident. If you are looking for modern amenities, this farmhouse is not for you. I would not recommend it to anyone with children as the furniture is abundant. Additionally, the stairs are shallow and not easy to navigate if anyone in your party has mobility issues. There is, however, a bedroom downstairs with a commode in the room (behind a screen) should anyone need it. The property feels safe and Trudy stays on site. Go with an open mind and a willingness to adjust to the quirks of the old farmhouse and you will have a memorable stay.

Serendipity. If one word was to sum up this cottage and our blissful week away, it would have to be Serendipity. I and my wife were looking for the ideal cottage to get away from 2020, somewhere that us, our two kids and ageing dog could breathe, be together and relax away from all of the daily stress we have with news, social media and daily cacophony of life in 2020. To maximise our time and locate the right place we decided to search separately at the same time, passing the odd 'possible' place back and forth to each other, just to have a list of 'backups'. Serendipity then came in to play, we both saw Trudy's cottage at the same time, both of us knew we had won the unspoken competition of finding the right holiday cottage. Both gloating as we sent each other the same cottage at the same time, it was then we knew it was meant to be.The cottage is located down a private gated lane, with only Trudy the owner her dog Heather and her hen's (Heathers hens) as neighbours. During our week I think I only heard one tractor the whole time we were there. The cottage is an old stone building, each room is small and unchanged from what it would have looked like the day it was built. We loved all of the features of the house, from the stone ground floor, the period details and furniture. We also loved the lack of clocks, we made our own time.eThe cottage has all of the modern conveniences you need for cooking, but has none that you need to escape. We welcomed the lack of a TV as there were lots of board games and books to entertain us.A stunning beach is a short drive away, the cottage is located at the base of the Ox Mountains so has numerous walks from the front door. Sligo and Benbulben are less than an hour away. For someone who loves exploring the Irish countryside, you can't ask for a better location.Trudy is a lovely hostess, has excellent local knowledge and is an advocate for heritage and Irish history. This cottage is one of a kind and takes away all of the noise from modern life, the best way to relax and get away from it all.
