About this cottage rental
Lovely cosy 2 bedroom stone cottage situated in the heart of Whitwell village which has preserved much of the original village charm and still retains its local pub, the White Horse Inn reputedly the oldest pub on the Isle of Wight which is only 5 minutes' walk from the cottage and serves local ales and food all day. Also in Whitwell is a fishing lake that is open to the public - Nettlecombe Farm - please check out their website for information and charges.
This pretty cottage provides ideal holiday accommodation for couples or small families alike. Benefits include off road parking and a spacious conservatory with far reaching views over the countryside, leading to an enclosed rear garden, ideal for relaxing at the end of a busy day.
Niton village is nearby and has a variety of local shops including convenience store, post office with tea rooms and bar, supermarket, chemist and book shop/general store. The White Lion is a traditional English pub and offers a large selection of homemade dishes.
This holiday home provides an ideal base for those wishing to explore the surrounding countryside and there are many beautiful walks to be enjoyed right from the cottage itself, and good beaches are within a short drive. Close by is St. Catherine's lighthouse and Niton Undercliff which is officially recognised as an area of outstanding natural beauty. The nearby Buddle Inn has splendid views overlooking the sea and opposite are steps leading to Castle Cove with its history of smugglers and ghosts. For those with children, Blackgang Chine Theme Park is well worth a visit. The Victorian resort town of Ventnor is a short drive away with its crescent shaped beach and variety of cafes and restaurants.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Cottage and we'd like to provide the folowing constructive comments@
Good Points:
1. The cottage is in a lovely location alowing travel to all the usual spots on the island.
2. The Cottage is well fitted out with everything you would need to either stay in or go out.
3. The large conservatory was a bonus, allowing us to sit in the light even when it was raining.
4. The garden was lovely.
Not so good points:
1.The entrance to the driveway in on the crest of a hill which means that it is a blind spot when entering or leaving the cottage, plus the gate posts are quite narrow. Care is needed when reversing in and driving out.
2. The bathroom is downstairs and the stairs are quite steep and narrow, so if you need the bathroom at night you need to be prepared to negotiate the steep stairs to get to and from the bathroom.
3. The main bed is a double, so if you are used to a kingsize bed or larger, then it may feel a bit snug.
Constructive suggestions:
1. Perhaps provide a camping tiolet for night use?

A lovely little cottage situated in picturesque village. The cottage had all the amenities needed, with a good size conservatory, patio and garden which were where we spent most of our time. The bedrooms were comfortable and the bathroom had a good sized walk-in shower. Plenty of good walks straight from the door and nothing is far away on the Isle of White. We would highly recommended this location for dog owners such as ourselves.

Lovely cottage with added bonus of parking. Ideal location for getting around the island and only 10 minutes drive to Ventnor with the local shops and beach front. Well equipped kitchen and large conservatory with really comfy sofa & chairs. Beautiful garden with mature shrubs etc. Bed was comfy. Bathroom/walk in shower was good size. Good size TV. However... it all needs a little updating and TLC. Lots of mis-matched hand-me-down items that didn't go or have any relevance to a country cottage/holiday let. No mirror over the chest of drawers and a tiny too-high-up mirror in the bathroom. The conservatory sofa covers were all faded from the sun. The old garden wooden chairs were uncomfortable and could do with seat pads. The cottage did look freshly painted in white everywhere and it was clean and a good location - its just the lack of care and detail that let it down.

This was a cosy cottage in a central location and was recommended to us by family who go regularly. Unfortunately on entry to the property and during the stay we found many cleanliness issues to include cobwebs and stray hairs, crockery dirty, marks on mirrors, food waste bin outside had not been emptied for a considerable amount of time.to name a few. These are not.things that the family members have encountered on their visit. The facilities within were very good, everything you would need including washing machine and hair dryer. We found the road nose quite bad as it is something we are not used to and also the speed that the cars/bikes go through the village at night were quite alarming. Ideal if you have a dog as lovely back garden and good walks nearby. Pub was great and even had a takeaway facility.
