Das Ferienhaus „Kohlmeise“ ist sehr ruhig gelegen. Man kann direkt von dort aus loswandern, zum nächsten Wald läuft man nur ca. 100 m. Nahe gelegene Wanderziele sind z.B. der Fichtelberg, der Gifthüttenberg und das Moor Siebensäure. Man konnte unkompliziert direkt in der Nähe vom Ferienhaus parken. Zum Aus- und Einladen kann man auch von hinten mit dem Auto bis wenige Meter ans Ferienhaus ranfahren. Die Gastgeberin hat uns eine wetterfeste Wanderkarte der Umgebung in einem guten Maßstab (sodass darin fast alle Waldwege verzeichnet sind) zur Verfügung gestellt, welche wir für die Dauer des Aufenthalts ausleihen konnten. Außerdem hat sie uns Tipps für schöne Wanderungen gegeben. Im Ferienhaus gab es weitere Karten und viele Info-Materialien zu Ausflugszielen (z.B. Wandern, Museen, Gastronomie, Schmalspurbahnen, Wintersport). In der Küche war einiges an Tees und Gewürzen vorhanden.
