The Esplanade

Very clean, comfortable and well situated. The staff were lovely and helpful. Breakfast was also good and there was a generous amount of tea and coffee supplies in the room.

Nothing to dislike. The only addition I would make is an anti slip mat in the bath for showering purposes.

The location is excellent, and the room finish was pleasant. The bathroom was particularly nicely appointed.

The welcome was "unusual" due to ambiguity in comms relating to access and lack of clarity re payment mechanism. The room was cold. The hotel's central heating is "conservatively" operated, leaving reliance on a wall-mounted space heater that is limited in its effectiveness, noisy, and does not heat the bathroom. This impinged significantly on comfort, especially considering the thin summer quilts on the beds. At £120 for 1 night on a room-only basis, I would not expect to have to ask reception if they would mind turning the heating on. The sound insulation between room 18 and the room upstairs was terrible. During our stay, a family with apparently energetic kids were in the room upstairs, and impact noise was continuous and intrusive. This also removed any necessity for an alarm clock, as loud thumps, creaks, and bangs woke us up at around 6:50am.
