Canal Cottages

Visited in the summer. I was surprised to see this very nice place hidden just a few minutes drive off the main road. My double accommodation for two nights was about right. I had a room in the courtyard. As female and attending a function I would have liked more furniture in the room. A desk and a comfortable chair with writing paper and a pen. A clothes chest to put away my clothes and a stool to put my suitcase on (most of my stuff was on the floor, but I was able to hang up some pressed clothes); I used the one chair to put out my cleansing and makeup stuff). In the bathroom, there’re no shelves and wall hooks - tumblers for water etc. There is no telephone just in case there was an emergency and I did not see any info / contact details on this. Breakfast is basic provisions and edibles placed in the room - a cooked and payable for breakfast is inside the venue; I did not have one, but I understand the price is reasonable. My bed was not made up/freshened up (perhaps if staying longer or if requested, I don’t know; but I asked for breakfast items for my last morning and the staff were helpful and prompt; I was pleased). The restaurant, bar and outside areas are very nice and welcoming. The canal runs alongside and I was happy when parent swans and signets came right up near where I was seated and fed. I was entranced. I saw some walkers and cyclists, I didn’t go for a walk because I was alone, and don’t know the area. There is parking at the venue, but I can’t remember seeing security cameras, however, my car was safe and there were no issues. The staff were very nice and helpful; they smiled and easy to talk to, also people around the venue and patrons were friendly - I met a dog named Murphy - even he was happy to meet me. I would like to suggest to the venue owners that perhaps the room could be better insulated because of the music (my headboard was along the wall which perhaps aligned near one of the events cubicle), however, I only had one evening/night where the music was a bother as I was tired; my second night (Sunday) was relaxing. I hope my review is helpful and not negative. I guess it’s about one’s needs and comfort. I hope to visit again to try out their menus and possibly sit outside and enjoy the canal :D

Our stay here was very good. Staff very helpful on arrival. Room clean, comfy, quiet and large. Right on the canal so you could enjoy an evening or morning stroll. A few shops just 10 minute walk down the side of canal. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. We would definitely stay again when in the area.

i believe "value for money" you could find a real hotel to stay with more facilities, no 24/7 reception. Reception is inside the bar (same bar staff). wknd night live music.
