The view from the balcony is stunning! The locals in Montemaggiore were incredibly nice, as were the hosts Nicola and his mother. Hiking trails are near the house on the Italian-Slowenian border. By car, you can reach either the mediterranean town Cividale del Friuli or the alpine landscape of Triglav National Park within 30min. The Rifugio at the foot of Mt. Matajur serves delicious meals, at night people come here to gaze at the stars. We would gladly return some day!
Only the apartments have a kitchen - the rooms do not (they have a mini-fridge, however, so you can have breakfast with a beautiful view on the balcony). Other than the Rifugio there are no places to eat nearby, but in beautiful weather you'll be out on daytrips anyway.

Remote, but lovely location. Quiet, charming village - excellent base for walking in the woods and hiking up to 1600 m. High up in the mountains with pleasant temperatures, even on a hot August day. Fantastic views. Large room with a fridge, nice bathroom. No shops or restaurants in the village, but a lovely mountain restaurant serving excellent food can be reached in 10 minutes by car or 50 min on foot.
