We absolutely loved the B&B room... it was full of history and character, which made our stay feel really special and authentic. Each morning, we enjoyed going to the café opposite La Torre for breakfast, it was the perfect, peaceful start to the day after exploring the surrounding areas.
The town itself is beautiful, with a charming, relaxed atmosphere. It was lovely to see locals, the nonnos sitting outside and watching the world go by, which added to the genuine Italian feel of the place.
And a fun highlight: it really is true that Sylvester Stallone is a fourth cousin of the owner, which is such a unique and memorable detail!
The location information was a bit misleading, which made travelling without a car quite challenging. The B&B was listed as being in Bitonto, so I booked a train from Bari Centrale to Bitonto. However, upon arrival, I checked the address on Google Maps and realised the property was actually in Palo del Colle, a nearby town.
To get there, we had to walk about 20 minutes from the station in Bitonto to find the correct bus stop for Palo del Colle, which was quite stressful, especially with a child.
That said, once we got our bearings, things became easier. We discovered that Palo del Colle has its own train station with connections back to Bari Centrale, which allowed us to visit places like Monopoli and Bari during the rest of our stay.
One thing to note about Palo del Colle is that most restaurants don’t open until around 7:30–8:00pm, which made it difficult at times to find food earlier in the evening, particularly when travelling with a hungry child.
