The Ruddings is in such a beautiful location. Being in the Lake District, you have major lakes, lovely villages, scenic routes and amazing hikes all within about an hour’s drive. It really is a perfect base if you want to explore the area. We had driven all the way from London, so arriving somewhere so comfortable made a huge difference. The food was one of the highlights of our stay. My grandfather used to rear pigs, so pork has always had a special meaning for me. The pork starter was honestly one of the best I have ever had. It was crunchy on the outside, soft and delicate inside, served with a lovely jam, and beautifully presented. For my main course, I had the steak, and the flavour was excellent. It had that deep, rich taste you get from well-rested meat, almost like aged beef, even though it was not aged. It was really well cooked and full of flavour. What also stood out was the attention given to local products. The cider was locally sourced, the beer was local as well, and you could really feel that the hotel was making the most of what this beautiful region has to offer. That made the whole experience feel even more authentic. Honestly, the cook must have come from a five-star hotel, because the quality of the food was far above what we expected. The room was also excellent. It was spacious, nicely decorated and very clean. The sheets were spotless, the rug was clean, and the whole room felt fresh and well prepared. We were travelling with our 19-month-old daughter, and the bed was so big that she could sleep between us without waking us up. Of course, she refused to sleep on the perfect sofa bed they had already set up for her, but that is life with a toddler. I also have to mention the value for money. The week before, we had travelled to Eastbourne in the south of England and stayed at a hotel that was only around 15% cheaper. The two places were not comparable at all. Out of respect, I will not go into detail, but we felt like packing our things a
There was very little that we did not like. The only point to mention is that the restaurant is open to non-residents and seems to be quite well known in the area, so it is better to book in advance. This is not really a criticism of the hotel, but more something to keep in mind when planning your stay. Also, as with many places located far from main cities, the region can feel a little reserved at first when you arrive as a visitor. It takes a little time to settle in and find your way around, but once you do, the area has a lot of charm.

Recently refurbished hotel with modern clean rooms. Car parking, close to main road for access to Keswick and easy to get around. Friendly staff and a great breakfast selection
