Lovely suite room. Huge his and hers showers, heavy blackout curtains. Nice gardens and boutique feel to sitting area and spa area.
The food at dinner service was a good standard.
The service was hit and miss. Very very slow with drinks orders, young staff that seemed like they'd rather not be there . At dinner/bar no music no ambience. Felt like an old people's retirement home . "Restaurant" is a drafty conservatory that could do with a good clean.
The breakfast service was pretty poor, there was no hot food when we sat down at 930 we had to wait a good 10 mins for some to appear. Only scrambled eggs . No sign of bread or toast nor were we offered any . Nor were we offered a menu for a la carte choices . Croissants available but only with jam. No butter portions.
Tea and coffee available. But sugar bowl empty. Tables not wiped down from previous guests..Sounds picky but when you are a 4 star charging nearly £300 a night these little things shouldn't be an issue. they're very basic and easy to get right it's just attention to detail, cleaning and wiping down, making everything is refilled and available, offering menus and serving drinks promptly.

The spa has been refurbished and is nice
I have been coming here for years and used to be a member of the spa and gym. It has been getting very tatty and I was hopeful that when it was taken over by Montigo Resorts it would go back to its former quality. Unfortunately not. There was a leak in the roof of the restaurant with buckets catching the water, the room was a bit tatty and the photos for the “Junior Suite” were of two different rooms- if you want the one with the free-standing bath in the bedroom you have to specify this on booking- I was very disappointed to not get the room I was expecting. The water ran cold then finally got (there are notices saying you have to run the water for a while) - this wasn’t a problem but it went cold again and never went hot, not enough for a full bath, had to top up with kettles of water. I got a discount with Booking but it was still grossly overpriced for what it was, I won’t be staying here again. Such a shame, as it has the potential to be a fabulous country house hotel. Very disappointed.
