The hotel became part of the Marriott marketing combine after I made my booking. The consequence was succumbing to the creepy Marriott approach to marketing. Their requirement that a Mormon bible is placed in every room is oppressive.

Beautiful hotel, close to Stratford upon Avon. Well kept grounds. Very clean rooms. No stairs, but thats expected from a listed building. A lot of history and culture.

I booked a night at the hotel with my partner and dog on the basis this was ‘pet friendly’ as advertised. There was not an option to advise we would be bringing a dog when booking, but when checking the reservation by phone found that the room booked (which had the header ‘pet friendly’) was not suitable for a dog, and we had to move into a lower grade apartment in the barn. We let that go and arrived finding the room pleasant enough, equipped with dog cushion and complementary treats. We had hoped to eat at the restaurant that evening, however on arrival were told we could only eat in the bar. This would also apply to the breakfast we had paid for. The bar has lots of sofas, but only coffee tables to eat from, this fact combined with a somewhat limited menu led us to eat elsewhere that evening. Nonetheless we did venture down to breakfast which was a pretty average buffet service. Taking turns to go to the non-pet friendly restaurant area, we brought plates of food back to the bar where we ate from the very low tables. We missed out on the conserves that were placed on the restaurant tables. It felt very awkward as other guests walked by! One member of staff offered a lap table to my wife, however we did not feel like eating ‘TV dinner’ style. So whilst the venue appears fine for those without pets, I would not call this a ‘pet friendly’ experience. The simple addition of a couple of normal tables within the bar (which might be reserved for those with dogs on arrival) would have resolved the issue, and potentially earned a further restaurant cover that evening. Lots of places are turning to dog owners to bolster hotel and restaurant bookings, however a few dog treats, cushion and overflowing dog bin is not enough. N
