Harbour Hotel & Spa Sidmouth

Friendly staff, hotel was clean and tidy. Located close to seafront.

Our room was a small room in the attic, unnecessary table and chair in such a small room. Extractor fan in shower not working. Double 13amp socket inaccessible as behind bed. A lot of noise from delivery / collection activities late at night and early in the morning. Limited Gluten free choices on restaurant menu.

A wonderful riviera style hotel, we were lucky with the weather mind you. A lovely chilled atmosphere in the bar and restaurant area and very friendly staff.

Our room was slightly on the small side but that's all, will definitley return.

The sun terrace with plenty of seating however there was a severe lack of sun shades The room was clean with just about enough space, sadly it overlooked the car park and hotel bins so was noisy at times. The member of staff when we checked in was charming and very helpful. The more experienced staff in the hotel restaurant and bar were good

The room had just enough space however it overlooked the car park and hotel bins which were in use at various times making it noisy on and off. The hotel seemed short of staff in the restaurant so for breakfast we had to wait quite sometime for our hot drinks and for replenishment of breakfast items on the self service buffet table. Some of the younger staff in the restaurant seemed untrained in how to engage with the guests and seemed very off hand and unhelpful - the more experienced staff were very good. On checking out the member of staff was different to the one we met on checking in - she was extremely offhand and questioned reimbursing us for the car park charges - we hadn't found a space in the hotel car park and had to park in the public carpark - we were advised to do this upon checking in - the member of staff didn't even bother to enquire as to whether we had enjoyed our stay.

Great location

There was a wedding there on Saturday but the trouble started on the Friday afternoon where the guests started to arrive. It was very noisy in the bar area and took time to get our drinks where I felt hotel guests should have got priority. We were unable to stay in the bar area and have a quiet drink to read our books because of the noise and it wasn’t just us that were forced to move. Then when we came down for our evening meal we originally sat by the window and had to move because of the noise and overall rowdiness, shouting across the room with not a care in the world. We also told the waiter we had moved expecting our food to be brought to the right table instead it was taken to where we were originally sitting and eaten by them and had to say again that we had not received our starter! Not only that, they were smoking/vaping in the restaurant and surrounding areas where this I thought was a no smoking hotel! We could not enjoy our meal and had to move fairly quickly because of the noise! Unable to stay around the bar area and enjoy a drink after our meal we had to return to our room. We avoided the hotel all day and evening on the Saturday as we knew what it would be like and when we returned we were not wrong. It was such a lovely day but we were unable to enjoy the terrace as the wedding guests had taken over. I can understand people want to enjoy a wedding but I felt it would have been better suited if they had their own separate area. Finally I paid for a superior double with a balcony but was really disappointed with the balcony as it was about the size of a postage stamp with a wooden partition that needed a lick of paint and the patron set was wet and didn’t dry out the whole time we were there. We spoke to a couple of guests outside the hotel and they were say the same as us. We have stayed at the Harbour Spa Hotel a few times and not had any issues before, but overall this has tainted out opinion and may think twice again about returning their.
