The Old Mill is the ideal choice for a family seaside holiday or a relaxing escape at any time of year. This historic, Grade II listed house is thought to be the oldest in the village dating back to the 17th Century. Steeped in history it retains many of its original features, charm and character. Bucks Mills was the home to Prunella Scales during World War II. The Old Mill was the village guest house at this time and its landlady is thought to have been the inspiration for Sybil Fawlty.

Just a stones throw from the secluded sand and shingle beach, it sits in the tiny cliff top hamlet of Bucks Mills, one of the most beautiful villages in North Devon, a secluded hidden gem with pretty white washed cottages speckled along a wooded valley at the end of a no through road. This delightful, spacious holiday home is one of the last adjacent to the steep clifftop pathway which leads you down to the glorious beach overlooking Lundy Island and the Atlantic Ocean. There are plenty of rock pools to keep young and old entertained or have a go at sea fishing.

There is plenty for everyone with birdwatching, fishing, riding, golf, surfing and sailing close by. The coastal path passes by the cottage and leads you to the famous fishing village of Clovelly and the unspoilt beach at Peppercombe, or if you are feeling energetic, walk all the way to Westward Ho!

A village store and post office is one mile away and nearby Bideford has restaurants and town amenities along with boat trips to Lundy Island, or hire a bike and explore the nearby Tarka Trail. RHS Rosemoor Gardens, Docton Mill and Hartland Quay are well worth a visit along with many pretty fishing villages to explore including nearby Instow and Appledore. For family fun the Big Sheep, The Ultimate Adventure and Milky Way Adventure parks are a must. Beach 200 yards. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.

Free WiFi

There are numerous steps throughout this property, making it therefore unsuitable for the less mobile. Sofa bed is for alternative sleeping only.

We had a great few days with the family. Ideal for walking the coastal path in both directions and easy access to other places by car. It was well equipped comfortable and clean. We had a great week at The Old Mill. The house is really lovely, very old, interesting and full of character. It was very clean when we arrived. The beds were very comfortable and there is plenty of space with 2 very comfortable sitting rooms. The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped with 2 fridges (one large American style) a freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer. There was also everything you could need to prepare food and cook ie excellent knives, more than enough pans and a fabulous range cooker. We had no issues with the wi fi. We managed to park outside the house to unload and always found a space in the lane near to the house. The main car park is not that far away and there was always lots of space in it. A more powerful shower is the only thing that we would have liked but that’s a minor issue and would not deter us from re-booking. The location is wonderful with the beach just a few minutes walk away. It’s a great beach to take kayaks out which we did. We did the walks to Clovelly and Peppercombe which we recommend and went to the beach at Westward Ho. We had a great time and would definitely recommend both the house and location.
