Fossil Cottage's south facing beachfront location is what we love most. Sunshine all day long and the very easy access to the water --- made easier by the boat ramp --- makes this the ideal spot for people who love water sports and playing outside. With barely any light pollution in the area, the location of Fossil Cottage is an excellent place to enjoy star gazing on clear nights. It is breathtaking to see the multitude of twinkling lights overhead and sometimes, the occasional shooting star. The very private location, with its own private beach, makes Fossil Cottage the perfect getaway for those seeking a break from the hustle and bustle of a busy scheduled life.
Perfectly situated on Whidbey Island's famous Penn Cove, Fossil Cottage is a slice of peace and tranquility. It is a special place where you can relax, breathe in the fresh sea air, commune with nature and restore your soul. Its south facing backyard provides unobstructed views of the picturesque town of Coupeville with 180 degree views to the East and West. Enjoy the ever-changing sky from sunrise to sunset. The snow capped peaks of the Olympic Mountains provide a backdrop to the awesome bald eagles soaring overhead. Resident herons perched on rocks; the occasional deer strolling on the beach; rabbits in the garden; a variety of wild birds; and an abundance of sea life are some of the natural attractions that can be seen just outside the cottage. Fossil Cottage is the perfect place to delight in the simple wonders of nature and the glorious abundance of the Pacific Northwest.
Fossil Cottage enjoys Penn Cove as its backyard. There are miles of shore to discover as you take long walks along the beach, while beach combing for treasures. A private eight foot wide boat ramp provides easy access to the water. Registered and qualified guests can enjoy use of the Cottage’s kayaks and rowboat. Enjoy a leisurely paddle along the Penn Cove shoreline or bring your own watercraft to explore Whidbey’s magical, clear waters. Dig for clams, trap some crabs, catch a fish...right in the backyard! Soak in the panoramic views from the upper sun deck, covered outdoor living area, lounge chairs by the shore, or from the beautiful park like garden. Star gaze while making s'mores around the firepit as the moonlight shimmers across the cove and waves lap gently against the shore.
Fossil Cottage is a lovingly renovated home with many original artworks and custom furniture made by the owners Jen & Greg. The bright and airy open concept living area is full of natural light and very connected to the views and surrounding landscape which makes Fossil Cottage the perfect four season getaway. Two well appointed bedrooms feature plush and comfortable king sized beds, perfect to lay your head after a day of island adventures and exploring. The kitchen is spacious and features stainless steel appliances plus everything you could need to make a home cooked meal. Enjoy the eating area with panoramic views and the sun deck overlooking the water. Pack your favorite movies to watch or enjoy a show or two from Netflix on the 60 inch Smart TV in the cozy living room. Fossil Cottage also offers Wi-Fi access to registered guests. The fully equipped house provides professional cleaning after each guest, assuring a top quality home for your next vacation getaway.

We loved staying here. Right on the water and the house was beautifully decorated. They supplied everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Super quiet area! We will definitely be coming back! Loved watching the sunset.

Fossil Cottage was a treat to stay at. Heading out on the calm, private waters of the cove at your will and enjoying the expansive views, the mussels, and the proximity to Coupeville and Oak Harbor were all perks that are going to bring us back. Absolutely loved the simplicity of the place and check in/out processes. We’ll be back!
