The name 'Rosenschmiede' is a loving reference to the self-run on-site blacksmith, where small works of art, such as forged roses, are made.

Our short holiday at Winkl was very pleasant despite the fact that we had mixed weather including some rain every day except the last. It has been my experience that mountainous terrains carry a risk of showers all year round. However the weather does not detract from the sheer beauty that is all around wherever you drive in Bavaria. On arrival at the accommodation we were warmly welcomed by Heidi our host. Heidi, a spritely octogenarian, was friendly and helpful. She claims her knowledge of English is poor but she manages very well and put our knowledge of German to shame. Our host let it be known that she was available if we needed anything but was not in any way intrusive. The ground floor flat was clean, warm and comfortable and contained everything you could possibly need. We chose Winkl as a base for exploring the area because it is located close to many places of interest. The Document Centre and Kehlsteinhaus in Obersalzberg are obviously a must see for history buffs. Also close by is the Historic city of Salzberg.Wherever you go there are very pleasant restaurants and lunch out is guaranteed to be a memorable experience. For British visitors it can come as an inconvenient surprise that not all restaurants accept card payments. I found that I was constantly looking for an ATM to get more cash.

The spartment was juat as described, spotless, well appointed, quiet in the beautiful Bavarian Alps
we stayed 6 days and were very close to Salt Mine, Eagles Nest, Salzburg and Barchtesgaden and easily got to see things we wanted to see.

As a family of four we stayed at Rosenschmiede during 15 to 20 July 2017. Our stay was fantastic! Coming from the United States and never having been to Germany we were nervous about renting a apartment but Werner and Heidi and their daughter Tina were very gracious and accommodating. They even provided us bus passes for free transportation within the local area. We used the cards to help us get to Salzburg during one of our sightseeing trip (does cost only 4 euros per person extra to take bus to Salzberg). The apartment was located within an easy walk of a bakery and Pizza Restaurant. Also within a short walk is Panaroma Plaza which has an Aldi grocery store, a bakery and coffee shop, pizza restaurant and another supermarket.
Thank you Werner and Heidi for making our trip to your beautiful country something we will cherish for a lifetime!

Als vierköpfige Familie waren wir im 15. bis 20. Juli 2017 in der Rosenschmiede. Unser Aufenthalt war fantastisch! Von den Vereinigten Staaten kommend und nie in Deutschland gewesen zu sein, waren wir nervös, eine Wohnung zu mieten, aber Werner und Heidi und ihre Tochter Tina waren sehr gnädig und zuvorkommend. Sie haben uns sogar Buspässe für den kostenlosen Transport innerhalb der Umgebung zur Verfügung gestellt. Wir haben die Karten benutzt, um uns bei einer unserer Sightseeing-Tour nach Salzburg zu helfen (kostet nur 4 Euro pro Person extra, um den Bus nach Salzberg zu nehmen). Die Wohnung befindet sich in einem leichten Spaziergang von einer Bäckerei und Pizza Restaurant. Auch innerhalb eines kurzen Spaziergangs ist Panaroma Plaza, die ein Aldi Lebensmittelgeschäft, eine Bäckerei und ein Café, ein Pizzeria und einen anderen Supermarkt hat.
