About this house rental
The “Casa degli Amici” (House of friends), ideal for large families and/or groups of friends, is located in the village of Biganzolo on the west bank of Lago Maggiore, about 18 miles from Ascona in Switzerland heading south, or about 40 miles drive from Milano Malpensa Airport, going north. Biganzolo is one of the many small romantic villages nestled on the hill sides along the lake. These villages are known for their art, crafts and cooking.
The environment: Lago Maggiore although known to be a tourist attraction, remains rather unspoilt by mass tourism like for instance the Toscana. The Alps to the north and the mountainous surroundings of this area offer a wonderful opportunity for outdoor activities. Val Grande National Park, to mention one of many hiking opportunities (located only minutes by car from Biganzolo) is an undiscovered and multifaceted paradise for hikers. The area is also becoming known for mountain biking. Hiking offers trails to roaring waterfalls in wild canyons, mountain streams, beech and chestnuts forests and little stone villages, mostly abandoned, built centuries ago from stones quarried from the mountain sides. At the end of trails you might find an eight hundred year old church or monastery or a quaint little village in which to have ice cream and a cool drink of water. Views from mountain tops are breathtaking and always worth the effort.
Further Information: Also there is the lake: scheduled ferries connect all villages and towns along the huge lake, but the highlights are of course the Borromeo islands (Isola Bella, Isola Madre and Isola Pescatore) which offer castles, botanical gardens and restaurants with incredible views. These islands are perfect for interesting outings and romantic dinners. Visit the numerous cultural and social events at Stresa and Pallanza, Locarno and Ascona.
Recreational activities: Cycling, diving, mountain biking, sailing, swimming, tennis, walking, wind-surfing, boccia and hiking in the romantic Val Grande National Reserve.

My family (8 adults and 4 children) had a wonderful time at the Casa Degli Amici!
The home is spacious and perfect for a big group - we were two families of 4 and two couples and it didn’t feel crowded at all, and everyone had their privacy (3 young kids shared a room, older kid was in the small bonus room next to the bathroom).
The rooms were functional and plenty big, and the sink in every room is a nice touch that reduces the bathroom usage (which is important in a big group, and especially since there are only two toilets in the main house). Definitely bring ear plugs if you’re a light sleeper because the nearby church bells go off every half hour (including in the middle of the night).
The kitchen is stocked nicely for a big family (plenty of plates, bowls, utensils, etc), the new oven works well (my family cooks a lot), and there are two fridges - a small one in the kitchen and another regular sized one on the landing between the first floor and the cellar. The regular sized fridge is a bit older and could probably use updating (it cooled things pretty slowly). Our main issue with the kitchen was the very small sink, which made it a bit difficult to clean the big pots and pans from meals for 12 people, but there is a dishwasher.
The gardens around the house are amazing! It was so fun exploring the different areas and it was perfect for the children to run around and explore. We had every meal outside and it was lovely.

Das Haus ist wirklich etwas ganz Besonderes! Schöne alte Räume, geschmackvoll und behutsam renoviert. Ein weitläufiger, schön angelegter Garten. Große Aussensitzplaetze für die gemeinsamen Mahlzeiten und Spielerunden. Wir haben uns rundherum wohl gefühlt!
Einziges Manko sind die gefraessigen Mücken - also unbedingt Mueckenspray mitnehmen

Ein wundervolles Haus!
Voller Charme! Zimmer sind alle sehr großzügig. Im Haupthaus nur ein großes Bad, stört aber nicht da jedes Schlafzimmer eigenes Waschbecken hat.
Der Garten ist ein absoluter Traum!! Überdimensional. Von der Küche kann man super durchs Fenster in den Garten bedienen 😅
