Villa Drahnet-Zervudachi (La Villa del Pascià): In 1849, the Egyptian Pasha Drahnet-Zervudachi built a splendid villa in Oggebbio and designed the park in the Arabic style. The Pasha, who was a high dignitary at the court of the Egyptian Viceroy Pasha Ismail, and was rumored to have been very prosperous through a happy inheritance, created an island of the Orient on Lake Maggiore between the green of the mountains and the blue of the water. The "Villa del Pascià" was synonymous with immeasurable wealth among the ordinary people, as there were only 40 servants, gardeners and stable-boys, who were responsible for the well-being of the guests and the numerous guests. One of them was the famous composer Giuseppe Verdi, who, as a close friend of the Pasha Drahnet, was commissioned by Viceroy Ismail to write a lyric work for the newly opened opera house in Cairo. Thus, inspired by the splendid Arab ambience on Lake Maggiore, the masterpiece "Aida", which was premiered in 1871 with triumphal success in the Egyptian capital and originated as a triumphant succession around the world, arose.
