The Austin Street Retreat is an authentic historic home built by European settlers well over a century ago. Restored and embellished through the decades with modern amenities, there are now five unique suites. Located one block off Main Street in Fredericksburg's National Historic District, this premier property is an authentic Texas treasure built of stone, timber and stucco. It is situated on a large double lot shaded by old growth pecan trees and perennials from the LBJ Ranch. Each suite features elegant, charming decor along with a private terrace.
Popular for Hill Country wine tours, family and friend reunions, special occasions and celebrations, the Retreat can sleep a total of twelve people.
MARIA'S SUITE
It all began in 1867 when immigrants John and Maria Walter built a log cabin structure and began their new life in Texas. The heritage of these pioneers is preserved here with eighteen inch thick walls, original paint on the ceiling, wood floors and wavy glass in the windows. Added later as the family grew and prospered was a limestone room. Both rooms are now bedrooms each with a Queen size bed. In addition, there is a dressing room, powder room enclosed space with a jetted tub and handheld shower and a sitting room with a flat screen TV, DVD and Time Warner cable. The lovely private terrace has an outdoor table and chairs shaded by a pecan tree which is the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee or evening wine.
The suite does allow one dog but we ask that is is 20 lbs or less. Furthermore, there is an additional pet fee. Please bring a crate for your dog and crate him or her in your absence from the house, do not allow the dog on furniture or beds, and pick up and properly dispose of their waste. If these rules are not followed, there will be an additional $200 charge added to your reservation.
The suite uses Brooklinen sheets and towels and Helix mattresses.
House Rules as Required by the City of Fredericksburg's Short Term Rental Ordinance
- Observe the City of Fredericksburg Quiet Hours (10pm to 7am in residential zones). No music of any kind after 10 pm.
- The City of Fredericksburg is a Dark Sky Community with outdoor lighting restrictions. All outdoor lighting is encouraged to be turned off when no one is present to use the light.
- Observe the designated on-site and off-site parking spaces.
- Place all trash in designated containers.

We had a wonderful time at this house. It was the perfect size, had everything we needed, and was in a great location! I would definitely recommend this house to anyone (especially if you have pets)! Check-in and out was super simple and the hosts were always accessible! Great weekend getaway!

Cute cozy cottage. Excellent location for restaurants and bars. Walkable distance from Oktoberfest. Fenced backyard was very nice and convenient.

The place was great! So, cute and so much old-world charm. I only have a couple of complaints. Firstly, the tub is kind of dangerous for your older, not so thin, customers. Not everyone likes taking a bath and prefer a shower. The shower head barely reached my head to rinse my hair, so I sat down to rinse my hair, and then had a really hard time getting back up safely.
Secondly, when I went to use some of the dishes, specifically a plate and cup, they had dust on them as if they'd not been cleaned in a while, let alone for each different guest.
But I'd still certainly return again, because the good far outweighed the bad.

The B&B is very rustic which we expected. However, the toilet did not flush very well, bathroom had roaches and the tub was not cleaned very well. Although the location was nice we would have expected more for the price
