The Appartamento del Capitano is a charming and elegant apartment situated on the third floor of the ancient Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, a building that played an extremely important role in the early Medieval politics of Cortona when the town was a city state. The Capitano del Popolo was the historical figure who traditionally represented the people of the city. This big palazzo overlooks the main square of the town, Piazza della Repubblica, giving a cross-section of the daily life in Cortona. The apartment has a bright sitting room with two sofas and an armchair, accomodating up to 6 people. The kitchen is very practical and it has a table for six people. There are three double bedrooms, one of which has two single beds. By a winding staircase you enter a characteristic bathroom with a shower and also another little toilet. The Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo gives you a unique opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere of the town centre of Cortona, walking through its beautiful alleys, shopping in the characteristic antique's shops and sipping a delicious glass of wine in one of the numerous coffee bars.

We had a wonderful experience at this special place. Clean and spacious with charming collections of furniture and art. We were able to open the windows and enjoy beautiful fall air and views. It is over a restaurant, so a little noisy but for us, just felt festive. We were able to have a few folks over for drinks and appetizers and they loved the place as well.
Would advise that the write-up for the place includes that it is 4 floors up stairs and at the top of the hill. If someone is elderly or has difficulty with stairs, property manager should recommend parking at the lot where you can walk mostly down hill with luggage, even though you will need to pay. Also, be good to have a little more TP ( toilet paper ) and bar of soap provided. Would love to return!

This is a truly unique place. Great location, super views, amazing kitchen, nice bedrooms, and, well... interesting bathrooms! Fine, but quite small, and the one at the top of the stairs is a bit risky perhaps. But hey, it's a medieval tower!
