This is one of the best B&Bs that ice stayed in. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean, with excellent seats provided so you can relax in the room. The (included) self-service breakfast is very good, offering cereals / muesli, fresh fruit, proper coffee or tea, toast and jam. Full kitchen facilities are available if you wish to prepare for own food in either morning or evening. Finally, the host Brian was welcome and helpful, providing excellent advice on the best options to view Hadrian's Wall.

An excellent base from which to explore the wonders of Hadrian’s wall. The accommodation is well appointed and very well maintained. The facilities leave nothing to be desired. The host is very friendly, amenable and helpful.

Out of all the places I have ever travelled (and I travel over the UK weekly for work) this little gem is the best place I have ever stayed. This beautiful, historic place set on a quiet street is managed by a gentleman named Brian. And boy is he the best host I have ever had the privilege to meet. Brian welcomed us and we quickly built up a rapport. History and hiking led us to Brian giving us a run down of the best places to go. As relatively new hikers; we were offered a lift the next day to Hadrians Wall. We accepted this kind offer and Brian took us all the way there. We ended up stranded. As people who take the inner city taxis for granted; we weren't prepared after walking 10 hours to a destination we were hoping to get a taxi from to nkt be able to get one. With 5% battery, no torch and in a village with no street lights; yep - we were pretty scared. Brian came to our rescue! He came and got us and he was literally our hero. Brian was fascinated by my hectic life and to receive a personal heartwarming message the next day to say if I ever need to offload; I know where he is - just absolutely warmed my heart. I undoubtedly will be seeing Brian again; not only as a guest at the Reading Rooms when I attempt another's hike but also to just catch up from time to time. People like Brian put their heart and soul into their ventures; and fo way above and beyond any sort of expectations. We commented in the car how we had quickly bonded and you said the quote, as said to myself and other guests: you like to see people "Come as strangers, left as friends" This is so true. I know this is a long review to read but I felt compelled to tell our personal experience as it really was one of a kind. Now to the facilities. There is a review on here which is utterly unfair. As stated clearly in the booking; it is a 'light breakfast'. Now having many 'light breakfasts' - the one Brian supplies is more than suffice. Grapes, blueberries, bananas, fresh yoghurt, all types of breads, cereals; in comparison to other light breakfasts this is excellent. I stayed at a Travelodge recently which cost me £120 for one night. The facilities were bare and basic with the breakfast being a cereal bar. At the Reading Rooms: we got two nights for two people for less than the above price. So how people can moan is beyond me. The rooms are spotless. The beds are extra comfy and the rooms spacious. There is a full kitchen to use, washer and dryer- perfect for travellers. This place is brilliant. Please give it a try. You will not be disappointed. Thank you Brian and Gill (who I hope to meet one day) for a great stay. Your hospitality will never be forgotten and thank you for literally being our hero Brian. Kerry and Michelle, Manchester xxx
