The Lion Hotel

Room was clean, nice breakfast. Good location

This is my second time here in the last 2 years. Bedsheets and towels are always clean. The stairs can be a bit tricky as they are slightly narrow but apart from that it is a nice hotel. Complimentary continental breakfast is a nice gesture. Parking is free and behind the hotel.

Lively hotel, very central. Continental breakfast included in value for money price. No air con but fans provided. Sash windows which were difficult to keep open, apart from that lovely hotel with large beer garden and sun room.

At first glance this hotel appeared to have an old world charm. However when we got to our room we found a tired and not particularly clean room. The room was very small with cheap furnishing. The dressing table was cheap plastic coated MDF with sharp hard edged handles/ drawer pulls. My partner recieved a nasty abrasion to her thigh as she brushed her leg against the said handles as she tried to negotiate around the foot of the bed and dresser, illustrating how small the room is. The bathroom was on a separate level meaning one had to step up 6 inches into the bathroom. Once in the bathroom we found a dirty space desperately in need of a good cleaning. The sealant around the bath was dirty splitting and yellowing. The tiles were cracked and broken leaving sharp jagged edges. One low wattage light bulb illuminated the space, with bulb being set in the first third of the room thus leaving the remaining two thirds gloomy. The extractor did not work therefore we had to have the windows open to ventilate both the bedroom and bathroom. When attempting to come out of the bathroom we both forgot the 6 inch elevation resulting in us nearly having nasty falls with possible injury. This room would not be safe or suit older persons, or persons with mobility , sight or ability problems. This hotel is definitely not a disabled person's friendly hotel no stair lifts or lifts in general and no visible ramps for wheelchair users. From the reception desk one has too use a small flight of steps down to where a bar is situated and to also access the stairs that take you to the bedroom's. This only a brief list of the failings of this hotel. Would I use this hotel again absolutely not for the money I was being charged, I left after one night feeling disappointed and disgusted.
